Chapter #4

Running Into Another Friend – Riley Shimazu

    by: Griswald Author IconMail Icon
You brush the sweat off your forehead and answer her with over-the-top and disingenuous body language and facial expressions.

"Shower, yeah!" you say. "Haha, totally! Uhm… I'm like, in a hurry. So, I gotta- I can't say- But you know…"

You point in the general direction you want to run away in. Felicia squints, confused by your awkward behavior, but a smile shines through, as she finds it endearing.

"Well, don't let me keep ya!" Felicia says, before waving you off.

---

Wanting to get away as quickly as possible you quite literally run for it. As you make your way along the side of the campus gym, you look back to see if Felicia is still looking, but she's gone already. Because you're more preoccupied with checking who's behind you, you never notice who steps out of the gym in front of you. Your run is suddenly halted, when your body collides with someone else's. You hear a basketball fall and bounce on the floor nearby. Your entire form crashes and bends against a more than six-foot-tall human, who only needs to take one step back to regain her composure. A shock of pain goes through you, while your face is the only thing spared, as it got buried in something soft. 'Boobies?' You think to yourself, as you hit the ground.

"Did you just run into my tits, you little sh-" you hear a familiar voice say, before her tone suddenly shifts. "Oh, Scott, it's you. Are you alright, man?"

You look up at the tall, sweaty girl, who's wearing dark-blue sport-shorts, and a loose orange basketball jersey, on a skinny, but muscularly-toned pale body. It's Riley Shimazu, another one of your friends, and the tallest Asian girl you've ever met. Her black hair is messily stuffed into a ponytail, with long strands of hair running along the cheeks of her cute face. On her feet are a pair of grey basketball shoes, with a bright red logo on the side, and a cyan-blue rubber bottom, from which a long pair of white socks sprout up to just below her knees. Something tells you the fabric is less white inside the sneakers.

You've known the brown-eyed girl since high-school. Born and raised in the states, Riley is the shame of her Japanese born parents. While they wanted her achievements to be intellectual in nature, Riley was more of a physically minded tomboy. A beanstalk that grew to an insane height, the girl quickly became the basketball team's star player, both in high-school and in college, her scholarship for it being the only reason she got into this college. Despite that her parents remain disappointed in her. It's a sensitive subject you know not to ask her too much about.

You push yourself off the ground. "Yeah, I'm alright. Sorry Riles…"

"Don't worry about it, bro," she says with a boyish voice. "Just stay clear of the milkers next time, and watch where you go."

Your eyes widen, when you realize you fell on top of the Matter Transposer. You quickly throw your backpack off your shoulder and open it to check if you broke it.
