Chapter #2
An intern transferred over from a cushy office ...
by: Unknown
Ten dollars and fifty cents.
You get paid ten dollars and fifty goddamn cents an hour to deal with this crap. Do you know how messed up that is? Ten dollars and fifty cents to deal with a bunch of petty overgrown children who oh, by the way, could destroy you in a heartbeat if they felt like it. It ain't right. Unfortunately, though, with how bad the job market is, it was either this or homelessness, and as appealing as living on the streets was after only two weeks at this gig was, you knew that if you survived the catastrophically high burnout you were pretty much guaranteed a much more prestigious position in a facility that wasn't a daycare center for the super friends rejects. And if you didn't survive well... best not think about that.
Your previous job was pretty soul crushing office work in a tiny cubicle in the department of some trivial public service so obscure that you yourself couldn't even say what it was that you did for the government, so you suppose that this was a step up from that. Or maybe a lateral step. When offered a position in a quote "Top secret facility, dealing with the security of the nation" you thought the heavens themselves had split to give you the opportunity of your meager little lifetime, you had to accept! Now however you're seriously reconsidering your decision not to wipe your rear with that letter the moment you got it in the mail.
"AGH!" You shout, more in annoyance than in pain. As you were daydreaming in the facilities library, a place that only you entered with any regularity, someone had snuck up on you and smacked you in the back of the head, causing you to face plant into the magazine that you had been glancing through. With a weary sigh you turn around and see (gasp!) Maria. Or more likely one of Maria's many clones that run around the base stirring up trouble like gremlins. Maria was now just standing behind you with a sickeningly sweet grin with her hands clasped behind her back, not even attempting to hide her completely naked chest and exposed privates just as all of the Maria's never attempted to. "Ugh, what do you want?" You say with exasperation, praying to every deity you could name that she was just going to pester you momentarily and leave.
"Me?" The Maria asked with grating innocence while bringing a hand defensively to her chest as though insulted by your insinuation. "I don't want anything from you! My sister on the other hand..." she trailed off.
Your eyes widened as you looked down and caught sight of another Maria crouched beside you, having just taken your radio off of your belt. You tried to grab her but she was too quick, sprinting away with it while slapping her bare ass with her free hand tauntingly. Now you wish you could just let her take it, let this whole thing end here, give up and just let the troll win now, but you knew that if you didn't get your radio back it would be coming out of your paycheck, so with a tired groan you go sprinting after the Maria.
