You heard something approaching, Hide!

Footsteps echoed down the halls. You pressed yourself up close to the wall to remain unseen, as there was no other form of cover to hide behind. You could just make out a figure in the dim light, walking at an even pace up the corridor near your position. The shadows kept them hidden from view but a few odd flashes of pink were occasionally illuminated by the moonlight. The figure walked past you and entered the child's room for a few moments, then quietly shut the door and moved on. You cautiously followed at a distance, reasoning that if anyone would know the way out of here it would be the residents of the household. The figure continued to advance until it reaches a door on the right side of the corridor, opened the door, and vanishes inside. First making sure the coast is clear, you sprinted up to a crack beaming with light and peered inside. The room was well lit, with candles adorning the walls and a smoldering fireplace lending heat. A bright pink... thing was sitting at a large desk, busily scribbling on something with a quill dipped in ink. The features looked vaguely equine, with a short little muzzle and two great furry ears crowning its head. Its focus seemed entirely on what it had on the desk, making little noises every now and then and then writing some more.
