The red headed twins led Abby all over the zoo often pulling her in opposite directions. Childish arguments that turned into paper, rock, scissors to find their direction. They drew stares from the crowds and workers. Their scarlet hair glistening in the air with their daughter struggling to keep up with their youthful exuberance. Numerous trips to the gift shop to pile up their gear. Making sure to go to a senior employee who understood each time. Matching outfits and stuffed animals with disposable cameras to capture it all. “Twins having fun with the animals in the park could be our next promotion. Two adorable twins, it is perfect.” Joanne said.
“Annoying creepy twins is more like it.” Abby muttered to herself.
“What was that dear?” Joanne said.
“Nothing mom.”
“We can get Ian to take the pictures. I think he has a good eye.” Jeff said after thinking it over.
“I loved his baby tiger pictures. They are absolutely adorable.” Joanne said agreeing. “Let’s do it now. Abby take us to see Ian.”
“Fine.” Abby said leading them to the front of the zoo. With long breaks to visit the penguin exhibit, butterfly house and of course the otters. Watching them race with the little girls along the pane of glass brought a smile to Abby’s face. Falling into their roles of joyful girls squealing in delight. Abby rubbing her temples with their piercing cries setting off a migraine. “Come with me girls lets get you to Ian.”
Abby’s attitude for the day changing upon seeing Ian. A nineteen year tall young man. A smile that caused her to melt. She flicked her hair back and pushed out her chest. Joanne snickered and rolled her eyes at her hormonal daughter. “What? What did I miss?” Jeff asked oblivious to his daughters flirtations despite being on scene.
“I don’t think you would appreciate the humor.” Joanne said refusing to elaborate.
Jeff’s tiny face looking befuddled at his wife before returning to face Ian. “We were thinking of a series of pictures be the various exhibits. Feeding the giraffes, riding the train having a picnic you know all the fun activities here that kids can do.”
“I am sure we can do that. Jeff cheaping out or simply fun?” Ian said. Jeff frowned at the insinuation. Ian’s recent raise refusal leaving him a sore.
“You are the one that didn’t want to work the night with the animals last month.” Jeff said.
“I needed the time to study. Finals were coming up.” Ian said.
Joanne played peace maker, “Ian we will of course pay any overtime this requires and think of the exposure. Ads will be all over the county. That could lead to magazines asking after your work.”
“I am in. You can count on me. When do you want to start the photo shoot?”
“No time like the present.” Jeff said.
Ian said, “Okay, I got some time. Where do you want to start this?”
“I think that we should hit the penguins it is almost feeding time.” Jeff said.
Joanne stuck out her tongue, “I don’t want to stink like fish. Let’s go by the Kangaroos. They are absolutely adorable and we could have some great pictures walking among them.”
“I think kangaroos are cute too.” Abby said trying to insert herself into the conversation.
“Kangaroos it is.” Ian said taking camera and bag. Snapping a few test shots.
