This choice: Will the wolf risk his secret to save Sabrina? • Go Back... Morgana is suspicious, but she doesn't show her emotions, she will get that traitorous wolf when he is not ready.
"Come on, my dear girl, hold on tight to Momma and the wolf. Together, we can get to my house and I will look at your ankle in better lighting than this."
Sabrina whimpered again as she grabbed a hold of her Mother's arm tightly. "Ow...ow.."
"Sabrina, it is not necessary to be a drama queen, cease with the whining!"
The wolf ambled along slowly beside the two women, he didn't dare leave Sabrina in Morgana's company alone. His mind was racing on what he needed to do next. Maybe he needs to reach out to his mate, but he hates bothering her with her new cub. There are so many enemies already in the village. His mate speaks very highly of Josette maybe he should go directly to her, she might be able to help Sabrina. So much to consider and so risky to leave Sabrina even for a minute with Morgana.
The house is visible now, the wolf has never been allowed inside before. "Oh Sabrina, I must act quickly before Morgana can cast her evil magic but what??"
Morgana had been silent, studying Sabrina and the wolf, mulling over her suspicions. That wolf knows too much and if he can actually speak everything I have done will be at risk. I can't allow him to leave, but what excuse can I use to lure him inside. He will be instantly suspicious if I invite him to my house. I should simply kill Sabrina and make it look like the wolf did it and then kill him so everyone believes I did it to protect my daughter. But her father will know the truth, he has this uncanny knack of seeing me when I do things with Sabrina. Sabrina has lived this long because of his sixth sense about me. Dang, its life was so much easier before this all started, now I am in way over my head and the Shadow Beast will never let me out of our agreement.
It’s bad enough more and more archers from the other Houses are not taking up the challenge to destroy all threats to their run for control of the games.
Sabrina stole a glimpse at the wolf and gave him a nod, assuring him that she would be fine. He needed to make his move to assure her safety and his. She could sense Morgana’s thoughts which surprised her. She never had the ability before to read people’s minds, let alone one of the evil fairies. Sabrina wished she could let the wolf know that she was reading Morgana’s mind and she knew her plans. She feared Morgana could read her as well, so she needed to keep her as blank as possible.
Sabrina asked to stop to rest before going into the house with Morgana, outside, she could see this strange green glow surrounding her but where did it come from. She looked again at the wolf and noted he spotted it too.
Where did the glow come from, she did not have it before. Oddly, Morgana did not appear to notice the new coloring around Sabrina. This weird sensation that her father was near suddenly came in to her. What the heck, Sabrina pondered I did not tell my father where I was going or that I would be with my mother. How does he know these things? Wait a minute, if I can read my mother’s mind, can my father as well? Is that how he always knows when I have snuck off to see her. That would explain a lot, no wonder I can never get away with anything.
“Morgana, my dear wife, how are you this fine day? I see Sabrina has come to visit you again against my orders. That child is defiant just like you.”
“Well, if it isn’t Sir Knight in Shining Armor Not, you have impeccable timing as usual. I should have known that I didn’t need to get Sabrina back to my house, you would have appeared to rescue her again.”
“I am loving her father!”
“Humph!”
They continued to bicker back and forth to Sabrina’s relief because she saw the wolf slip off into the woods. Phew, that was too close for comfort. Now, she was going to have to face the music with her father again. At least, now she knows that her mother is not to be trusted. Maybe this mind link will not end and she can use it to her advantage.
Sabrina’s father knelt over her studies, her ankle. “Looks quite swollen, can you move it?”
Sabrina gingerly moves her ankle from side to side and then up and down.
“Good range of motion, any sharp pain?”
Sabrina shakes her no.
“You were lucky this time, looks like it is simply sprained. When I get you home I’ll wrap it in a bandage to keep the swelling under control. You, young lady has to stay off that foot for a few days and let it heal.”
Sabrina nodded grudgingly. Meanwhile, Morgana’s thoughts were racing on how to prevent him from taking Sabrina out of her reach.
Morgana offered to let Sabrina rest with her, they could all stay at the house. It’s large enough for everyone.
Sabrina’s father immediately and rather harshly said, “NO” Then, seeing Sabrina’s expression, he quickly said, “she will more comfortable in her own bed at home.” With that he swooped Sabrina up into his arms and strode away from Morgana’s domain.
Morgana fumed and paced back and forth. Then she noticed that the wolf was no where to be seen. Curse! Outwitted again, she was furious. Several other creatures in the woods scattered away quickly, avoiding Morgana’s wrath.
Sabrina safely tucked in her father’s embrace dozed off against his chest, listening to the rhythm of his heartbeat. The wolf silently followed them, making sure they made back safely without any interference from the other houses. Then he was going to seek Josette and see what plan they could come up with to protect Sabrina from Morgana.
