Chapter #4

Milkyberry Surprise

    by: Unknown
It was an average day in Screamtown. Screamtown was a town that was inhabited by monsters of mythology that were as big as skyscrapers. However, unlike other parts of the monster world, the monsters of Screamtown lived in peace with humans that would've been eaten anywhere else. Curiously Screamtown was split into five parts. Besides the center of town, there were four corners that were locked in only one season regardless of the time of year. Our story takes place at a bakery in Springtime Street.

The proprietress was Maddie Thurman, a 915ft tall long gorgon girl. Maddie was a chubby gorgon with purplish skin and lavender colored rattlesnakes for hair. Unlike most gorgons, she had a 1000ft long rattlesnake's tail where her legs would normally be, making her look more like a naga than a gorgon. Because she was a gorgon, Maddie had to wear a special pair of gorgon proof sunglasses or she'd turn anyone who looked into her eyes to stone. Madeline was at the time working with some bread dough as her human assistant Rick was gathering blueberries to put into the mix. It was a rather slow day and Maddie's pet gargoyle beast was asleep right near the door.

However, the beast quickly woke up as somebody entered the shop. It was Latanya Bull, an 1110ft tall and obese green furred minotaur. Latanya had a hunched over back and brown hair that was going gray prematurely. While she wore a black shirt and purple jacket, her massive udder made it impossible for Latanya to wear pants.

"Hi Maddie," said Latanya. "What's up?" "Oh," said Maddie as she looked up at the ceiling. "There's three light bulbs, some wallpaper..." "Maddie," said Rick. "She means how are you doing." Maddie was sweet but she wasn't exactly the smartest monster. "Oh," says Maddie. "Well, things could be better. Haven't had much business today. I highly doubt dieting has anything to do it. This is Scream Town. The monster girls are either amazons or the size of sumo wrestlers." "I see," said Latanya. "Listen, Maddie. I found something growing in my garden that I thought you'd be interested in."

Latanya reached into her jacket pocket and took out a weird piece of fruit that looked like two orbs stuck together. It was bright pink in color and had strange swirl marking on it and white patches. "That's a fruit?" asked Rick. "It looks like a pair of boobs." Latanya adjusted her glasses to take a closer look as Latanya instinctively closed her eyes. "It's okay, Latanya, I'm not taking my sunglasses off. That is a nice fruit. What is it?" "Hell if I know," said Latanya. "Freya's the one in the family who specializes in fruit. I grilled that sister of mine and she said she never saw a fruit like this before."

"Hmm," said Maddie. "I wonder how it would taste in a pie. How much do you want for it, Latanya?" Latanya shrugged her shoulder. "I don't know? Twenty skulls?" Maddie opened her cash register to take out a 20 skull bill and handed it to Latanya in exchange for the fruit. However, the moment Latanya handed Maddie the fruit, Maddie's gargoyle beast stared at the fruit and growled. "What's wrong, Caliban?" asked Rick. The gargoyle beast barked loudly and hissed at the fruit. "You might want to take him to the vet, Maddie," says Latanya. "Crazy gargoyle dog. Barking at fruit. See you later, Madeline."

Maddie however just looked at the fruit with a smile and took out a knife. "I wonder how this would taste in a pie." Maddie took a slice as big as Rick was and Rick saw a strange white juice come out of the fruit. "Are you sure you should eat that, Maddie?" asked Rick. "It could be poison." "Rick," said Maddie. "I'm a gorgon with venomous snakes for hair. Poison can't hurt me. And besides, I'd be the first to know if it was poison." Maddie bit into the slice of fruit and ate it while Rick watched for the verdict and Caliban looked on and growled slightly.

"It tastes a little too sweet," said Maddie. "But otherwise it's not bad." Maddie then cut away at the fruit to extract a few seeds. "I think I'll try to grow it myself so I don't have to keep bothering Latanya." "I don't know, Boss," said Rick as he stood on Maddie's thumbnail. "I don't think Caliban likes you eating that fruit." Maddie but the fruit into five pie pans before mashing it up and pouring the batter on for the crust. "I'm not eating all of it, Rick. I'm going to sell it."

Rick knew that arguing with his skyscraper sized boss would get him nowhere, so he shrugged his shoulders as Caliban let out a whimper. "I think you're trying to tell your master something," said Rick. "Aren't you, Boy." The giant dog-like creature let out a moan and nodded his head.

Maddie had exactly five customers that day and each one bought one of the five pies. The first was the mail carrier, Estelle de Quimper. Estelle was a 975ft lou carcolh, a hybrid monster of a dragon and a mollusk. She had the head of a dragon but the body of a giant violet snail with arms and legs and a spiked shell on her back. "Thanks, Maddie," said Estelle. "You don't know what a pain it is to have to be the one who chips in for pie and cake for everyone at the post office. Can't they bring their own damn sweets. What kind of pie is this anyway?" Maddie shrugged her shoulders. "Heck if I know." She said.

Maddie's second customer of the day was Cassidy Voltaire, a 925ft tall vulture harpy with pewter gray feathers and grayish brown hair. She wore nothing but a pair of leg warmers because she ran the Screamtown gym with her daughter, Libby, a pigeon harpy. "I never thought I'd see you buying a pie, Cassidy." Said Rick. Cassidy shrugged her shoulders. "Maddie's been having such a slow day, I thought I'd pet the dog." Maddie smiled at that. "There he is." She said pointing at Caliban, obviously taking Cassidy's words literally.

The third customer was Rangiku Urameshi, a 985ft tall and pear shaped red hellhound woman with hair reaching down to her rear, spikes running down her back and a skull like face. Rick was a friend of Rangiku's daughter, Manami and knew for a fact that the Urameshi's were a mixed family of humans and hellhounds. "Thanks, Maddie," said Rangiku. "This pie smells otherworldly." Maddie smiled and nodded her head. Perhaps that strange ingredient would improve her business.

Maddie's fourth customer was Angel Bauza, a 1050ft tall apple-shaped and gold furred weretigress inventor who lived in Autumn Avenue. "I'll try anything once," said Angel. "I came here because I heard from Freya about this strange fruit that Latanya sold you. I just hope it tastes good." Maddie nodded her head.

Maddie's last customer was Pauline Pride, a 1000ft black furred Nemean lioness who ran a restaurant in Winter Way. She held up and sniffed the strange pie. "I'll be the judge of this pie," said Pauline. "I might put it on the menu if it's good enough." "That's nice." Said Maddie.

After Pauline bought the last pie, it was closing time and Maddie had locked up the bakery to go home. "See you tomorrow, Rick." Said Maddie. Rick waved goodbye as he walked up to the human sized terminal to wait for a monster taxi to pick him up. As Maddie was slithering home, Caliban followed her and had a slight scowl on his canine face. He did not trust that weird fruit that his master had bought.

That night, Maddie was getting in bed with Othello, her gargoyle husband. Othello was a muscular blue skinned gargoyle one head taller than his wife with a long beak and white hair. He was already fast asleep as Maddie yawned and slithered into her bed, putting her glasses on the table. She didn't have to worry about petrifying Othello or Caliban since both gargoyles and gargoyle beasts were immune to gorgon eyes.

The next morning, Maddie was the first to wake up and let out a yawn, albeit she took more effort than normal to get up. "Geez," she said. "I know I'm on the heavy side, but I couldn't have put on weight over night could I?" Maddie turned on her lamp and then she looked down and had to put on her glasses (they weren't just to protect people from her stony gaze. She really needed them to see). Once Maddie could see what was in front of her, she let out a scream that woke up both Caliban and Othello.

"Maddie!" yelled Othello. "What's wrong!?" "Othello," said Maddie to her gargoyle husband. "You're not going to believe this." Othello looked in surprise because Maddie's breasts were the size of...
