You sighed in front of your computer as you continued to work on the first big project that was assigned for you to manage fully on your own. You liked the office and it felt good to have a constant and reliable income source after bravely trying to survive and drowning in the tough waters of entrepreneurship, but things certainly could have been a bit better, in particular with your female coworkers.
Your boss Kim was nice enough and you felt grateful to her for giving you a chance in this industry where you had little experience in, but aside from her and the always nice Jenny everyone else was a bit.. harder to deal with. Jacinta who seemed a bit too friendly with you right of the bat, Denise who seemed to hate you from the moment you entered in the company and made you learn to hate her too and her partner in crime Candice, the receptionist who you could swear was actively trying to sabotage you one or two times. Even the janitor gave you an unfriendly look the few times you crossed paths with her, despite not exchanging a single word with her before.
Oh well, you were experienced enough to know that as long as everyone did their part the workplace could be tolerable, and you hoped once you worked closer with them the environment would eventually improve. You took an active pause to get some coffee and along the way you spotted Denise kicking her high heels to get more comfortable, which made you frown involuntarily.. Feet were just disgusting, your already poor opinion of Denise just decreased as she moved her pantyhosed feet under her desk a bit.
If you had your way she wouldn't be allowed to do that, treating the office as if it she owned the place. But you were a new employee here, you don't make the rules, and wouldn't want to start a pointless discussion with a coworker that already dislikes you. Plus it's not like she's planting her feet in front of your face or something like that which would be awful, she's just trying to be more comfortable while she works at her desk. You'd easily lose that discussion if you decided to bring it up.
You go back to your seat and just notice you have a new mail in your inbox, flagged as "urgent". Who is it from?
