You decided that making Stacy Goth was really no bid deal. You knew several of the goth kids and you thought they was pretty nice. You wanted something that could cause a scandal. So you removed from Stacy's head all the gothic look thoughts and made her fall in love with a geeky sophomore girl who happened to be in the hall.
Stacy didn't know the girl, but she was instantly in love with her. Stacy knew what would happen if she acted upon her feelings. She would go from queen bee to social outcast in less than a day. It wouldn't be just that she was a lesbian, but to be with a sophomore and a geeky one at that it would be social suicide.
Stacy decided she would have to help her love interest become cool and be part of her circle before she could have a secret relationship with her. She couldn't do anything about the girl being a sophomore but she could at least help the girl with a makeover. You could read her thoughts and would like to see how this turned out. But you knew that in the end it wouldn't work out well.
