Ashely Ketchum wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was, and that meant an insane amount of training. She got dressed in her blue skirt, black tank top, blue jacket, and signature hat, ready to work hard with her pokemon all day long.
But how was she going to train? There was the usual way of wandering through the woods until she found a wild pokemon, and then she could defeat it and maybe even catch it, but that could get tedious after a while.
Or she could train by having a pokemon battle with other trainers. Trainer battles usually involved betting money (but sometimes something else) and were more challenging, but the reward was greater too.
Or she could forget fighting altogether and run her pokemon through an obstacle course she had heard of designed to push pokemon and their trainers to their limits.
Or maybe Team Rocket was going to solve Ashley's problem for her. They showed up on nearly a weekly basis to try to steal Pikachu, and while their plans were often elaborate, they offered Ashley and her pokemon a steady amount of experience.
