“Looks like they finally put me with someone I have something in common with!” the fat girl said with a cursory glance of my body, extending a hand to help hoist me up “I’m Kim.”
“Mel.” I said, gripping her arm with a smile, even as we struggled to heave me up into a seated position, “So you’re my new roomie, huh?”
“Yup!” she said, placing her hands proudly on her hips, “For the next semester it’ll be you and me, and I hope you don’t mind, but an awful lot of pizza.”
A smile crossed my lips and dimpled my cheeks as I looked my new roommate over once again, catching a glimpse of belly blubber threatening to creep out from underneath her band shirt. I couldn’t believe my supreme luck. Even after all that trash talking my Mom did trying to get me to stay home with her while Alice filled my space at Buttercombe, telling me that ‘most people take offense to young ladies who do nothing but eat pizza all day’, I managed to score a room with a girl who looked like she ate a lot more than pizza.
“I don’t mind a bit.” I said, hands falling back to my belly as it gurgled between my fingers, “In fact… I think I could go for some right now.”
“Now you’re talking my language.” Kim said with a smile, “Let me show you a whole new world Mel—one filled with empty calories and student discounts.”
