It was a bright sunny day at local high school. It should have been storming. In these types of situations a powerful thunderstorm is always appropriate, but there was a completely cloudless sky. Sometimes the weather just won't cooperate.
In science lab on the second floor something amazing was happening. A sandy haired 16 year old was hard at work on what had started as his science project. Unfortunately for the child he was one of those special kinds of geniuses. The type that comes up with ideas that are nothing less than genius and completely revolutionize the world. However, it was also the type of genius who lacked the wisdom to know that just because you could do something didn't mean you should.
His name was Alex.
"At last my greatest invention is finally complete!" Alex gave a triumphant shout. "And, I feel this would be a lot better with an audience." He let out a sigh. He was spending his lunch in the science lab alone. "I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to monologue or something about what I'm about to do but, alone it's just not the same." He let out another sigh and then began to speak loudly to the empty room about what he had built, but from the tone of his voice it was clearly he wasn't into it.
"It is finally done!" He shouted in a monotone voice. "Though about a month late for the science fair. Still, I have created the Biological Attribute Time and Space Reformation Ray! Or, Bats-R Ray for short. This modern miracle of science has the capability to compress or stretch the spacial and temporal axis regardless of what their natural point in time and space would be. In layman terms, it makes people and animals bigger or smaller as you change their spacial axis or younger and older as you change their temporal axis."
The device that sat in front of Alex on a shelf next to a window was about the size of a super soaker but completely gray in color and covered with wires, flashing lights, buttons. There were to switches one for age and one for size and a knob that could adjust the power output on the ray.
"Well then, let's get this thing started up!" At this point Alex seemed to become a lot more excited now that he had gotten through his monologue and got to actually test out the gadget he had made. "Let's see, teacher said I'll in huge trouble if I test anything on the class pet again. Only other living there here is me. Well should be fine, but just to be safe, let's only do a minor change to start out." Alex walked up to the ray, switched off the switch for age, then flipped on the switch for size. He set it for 50% reduction, put on a timer and then stood in front of it.
A beam of pure blue light erupted from the tip of the ray and struck Alex squarely in the chest. The effects were noticeable immediately. The entire room seemed to swell from Alex's point of view, as wore his clothes. His shoes were suddenly comically large on him, going up to almost his knees despite being sneakers. The rest of his clothes weren't doing much better, his pants and underwear having completely fallen off of him. Luckily, his shirt was also much bigger on him, and though it clung loosely to his shoulders it stayed on and hung all the way down to his shins maintaining his modesty.
"Note to self." Alex spoke to himself as he finished shrinking, settling in at a new height around two and a half feet. "Invent size changing pants." The boy quickly climbed out of his oversized shoes and pants that were tangled around his leg and stood in the classroom dressed only in his much longer shirt. The top of the shelf was now over his head and he couldn't even see his invention. It was surreal, the way that the tops of student desks were now about level with his head. He walked around the classroom for a bit examining how much bigger everything was getting excited by the fact the thing worked.
"Well fun is fun, but probably better change myself back." Alex muttered and walked back over to the shelf and tried to reach up to get the invention. The shelf was higher than his head so he couldn't see and had to reach over the shelf and grope with his arms to try and find what he was looking for. He brushed the edge of the Bats-R Ray. As he did he felt it slide backwards away from his hand, and then heard an unfortunate crash as it bumped into the window breaking it, and proceeded to fall right out the window and away from Alex leaving him stuck like this in the second floor lab.
"That's... not a good noise." Alex whimpered. "Wait, it's okay. I haven't lost the Bats-R Ray I've merely misplaced it, I just need to go outside and look for it, while I'm the size of a toddler. Okay it could be worse." He started to walk towards the door, only to stop when his shirt brushed against his ankle instead of his shin. It was now longer on him. "Oh, that can't be good."
Not only had he lost the ray he was still getting smaller.
Now which protagonist shall we follow in this story?
