Alex gasped as he looked into the mirror. He was shorter than two and a half feet now, but it wasn't because he was shrinking! Well he supposed technically he was kind of shrinking, but it was something different. The device he had built had two functions on it, and changing size was only one of them. He looked into the mirror and saw that his facial features had changed slightly. They were softer, his skin was fairer, and his general frame was a little squatter. Even accounting for the size change, he looked like he belonged in middle school instead of high school.
The Bats-R Ray could make things bigger or smaller, but it could also make things younger or older. Alex was getting younger. He only looked to be about two years younger than he had started, probably 14 instead of 16, but it was noticeable. The problem was that from the feel of the shirt getting bigger on him he was continuing to get younger, and he watched in the mirror as he changed from a 14 year old into a 13 year old.
"Okay, okay okay." Alex spoke out loud to himself to help stay calm. "There's nothing wrong here, this just proves that the machine can do what it was built to do. Just need to retrieve the device and Alex could turn himself back to normal. He went back to the window the device had fallen out of and climbed up onto the edge to get a look at the area outside it would have been in.
It wouldn't take him to long to get down there. Still, he thought for a moment. He looked like a middle schooler, he was about the size of a toddler, maybe he shouldn't go out there by himself right now. Might be safer if he had someone else to go look for it for him, there was no one here right now but surely a teacher would be in to check on him soon, or another student would have to stop by the lab.
He thought for a moment, he was getting younger by the moment, and he didn't know when he would stop getting younger. If he wound up getting to young he might not be able to actually talk to anyone that came in. Was it safer to wait for someone else to come in, or better to explore the school on his own and try to reclaim his invention.
