"You can turn me into anyone?" Pete asked, trying to pretend that light show didn't happen, "Where in the world did you get the idea that you could do that?"
"I don't know Pete," Jane looked down at her necklace, "After putting this thing on, I just feel it. I know I can. It's a little hard to explain, but I'm as certain as I can walk that I can change you,"
"Alright," Pete sat down on his mother's bed and decided to humor her, "If this is all true, how does you power work? When you change me into someone, will They be me? Do I take on their life as well as their body? Do I act like them?"
"Nope," She smiled, "You'll only look like them. Genetically, you'll be like an identical twin to whoever I chose, but mentally, you’ll still be the same Peter" She noticed Pete's raised eyebrow. "What?"
"Mom," Pete put his hand on his mother's shoulder, "You know I'm trying my best here, but can you understand my situation here? How am I, a logical person, supposed to believe this? And even if your power did exist, I don't see how it would be useful in any way."
"Oh, Peter," She sighed, "I'm not exactly sure if my power is supposed to be useful or not. Maybe it's just for fun. Or maybe it something more meaningful. Either way, I think an example is necessary to convince such a big skeptic like you,"
"By all means," Pete chuckled, "Change away, mom."
"Alright," She said, as she closed her eyes, "Don't say I didn't warn you Peter. I'll start with someone familiar." Peter put his face into his palm. Pete, although still entirely sure there was no magic in his ring or in his mother's necklace, was still shaken by that blue and red nightmare that happened while his mother was unconscious. Pete reassured himself that he probably just imagined the whole thing, or that he was dreaming, or that Cassandra was playing some awful prank. Assuring himself that nothing like that would ever happen again, Pete looked up and saw a familiar glow from his mother's necklace.
