Chapter #4

Oh My God

    by: Rita Author IconMail Icon
"You can communicate with the gods?" Pete asked his happy mother, "What does that even mean?"

"Well, what do you think it means, Peter?" Jane rolled her eyes at her son, "It means I can send a message to a god. With this set of magic jewelry, I can send some kind of direct signal to one of them. Pretty neat, huh?"

"Yeah, real neat mom," Pete sighed at his crazy sounding mother, "So getting past the fact that there are apparently many gods, what gods are we talking about? Are we sending a message to every god or one in particular?"

"Hmm..." Jane rubbed her chin in thought, "I'm not sure. Guess well just have to try it out and see."

"Well, what kind of message are we going to send?" Pete was growing tired of playing along with his mother, "What could we possibly say to a god? Aren't they by definition above us in every way?"

"Peter I have no idea, OK." Jane crossed her arms, "I never done this before, so take it easy on me. I'm not even sure if we say anything. The necklace might just send out a signal to let them now it has a new owner. Who knows?"

"Oh god, mom." Pete complained, as he sat down on his mother's bed, "Just do whatever you gotta do to get the message across then. I would like to do other things tonight besides talking to my mother about deities and necklaces."

"Didn't you just saying you would do this for me?" Jane asked her son, who just shrugged at her, "You are ridiculous. Fine, just sit there while I figure it out, OK?". Pete complied, sitting and watching his mother fiddle with her necklace. As she poked and prodded the necklace, she grunted in frustration as nothing happened. Than an idea struck Jane, as she took her hands off the necklace and got on her knees. She placed both of her hands together and tilted her head towards the ground. Oh, she's praying, Peter scratched his head as he looked at his mother kneeling on the floor, I guess that makes sense. That is what people usually do when they want to talk to a god. Suddenly, Jane necklace began to glow blue again.

"Oh no," Pete uttered as the blue light got brighter. He could no longer see his mother, the bright expanding light completely saturating the view in front of him. Pete tried to crawl away to the other side of the bed, but it was pointless. The whole room was blue. He was surrounding by a bright sapphire glow that he couldn't escape. It all became too much for Peter as he passed out.

...

"Well that's strange," An unfamiliar voice rouse Pete out sleep, "I guess I can manage though. Not every day you get a oracle." Pete pushed himself up off what he thought was his mother's comfortable bed. After Pete's eyes adjusted to the light, he realized that instead of resting on a comfortable mattress, he was surrounding by large mounds of something white and fluffy. Sitting up and looking around, all Pete could see was this white fluff covering the floor, the walls, and even the ceiling. What is this stuff? Pete curiously pressed down some of the fluff as hard as he could, only for it to return to it's original shape after removing his hand, They look like...clouds. Where the hell am I?

"Ah, you're awake," The mysterious voice spoke once more, "Welcome to Mt. Olympus, Peter Connors," Pete turned around to see a solid gold throne and a beautiful brunette women dressed in robes and not much else.

"Woah," Peter mumbled, blown away at the beautiful women before him. The woman being one of the most stunning people Peter had ever seen before. She embodied almost every single thing Peter wanted in a women. It wasn't just her physical appearance, either. There was some kind of presence she had, like a sexual aura around her that was almost visible. Although Pete was enamored by the mysterious woman, he reminded himself of his current situation and cleared his mind of all sexy thoughts. "Hey!" Pete tried his best sound intimidating, "Who the hell are you and where the hell am I?!"

"Oh, my, that's new!" The woman smiled, sounding as excited as she was surprised by Pete's outburst, "Well human, if you were paying attention earlier, you would know that you are currently in Mt. Olympus, home of the gods. My name is Aphrodite, Goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and sex. You can call me Allie, if you want though"

"Oh," Pete lamely said, not sure what he was expecting to hear, "OK, um, Allie. Why am I here?"

"Because you activated the jewelry, silly human" Allie giggled, "The jewelry is used by devoted believers to send their best smiths, soldiers, or scholars to us gods. We then decide if those believers are worth becoming oracles. If accepted, the oracles return to earth and spread the word of majesty and power. It's usually a great honor to be chosen, so it's odd that you don't know why you are here. I'm guessing you used the jewelry without knowing what it was meant for, right?" Pete nodded in response, which only made Allie giggle again, "That is so funny! Humans always get themselves into these problems. That kind of stuff never happens to me!"

"It never really happens to me either," Pete rubbed the back of his head, unsure of how to approach a god "So, clearly there was some kind of misunderstanding, so could you, um, take me back to my house?"

"Oh, no can do. Sorry Peter," Allie shrugged, "Normally I wouldn't mind helping you out. Despite what some other gods do, I actually don't mind helping out humans. But I can't, just not this time, because you're special."

"What?" Pete asked, "How am I special?"

"Well you were the first human I ever met who wasn't seduced by me," Allie smiled at the confused Pete, "You see Peter, being the goddess of sex has it's benefits. One of them being that any man or woman within 200 yards of me become aroused and are drawn towards me. I also naturally morph into what that person's perfect lover would look like. Both of my godly powers were affecting you, and you resisted. I'm impressed, frankly."

"Um, thanks?" Pete wasn't thrilled where this conversation was going, "To be honest, I did think about it,"

"But you didn't act upon those thoughts." Allie pointed out, "You stay focused and alert, despite me being directly in front of you. No, you are perfect, you'll be the best oracle I've ever had."

""But I don't want to be an oracle!" Pete pleaded to the goddess, "I don't know anything about being an oracle, I'd be terrible at it. I just want to go back home!"

"Sorry Peter, I've made up my mind. This is happening," Allie told a distraught Peter, "But don't worry, You're not going to be an oracle on Mt. Olympus, everyone here already knows about me. You'll be sent back to your realm. It'll just be a little bit different."

"Different how?" Pete nervously asked, "What’s going to change?"

"Oh, you'll see" Allie playfully said, as the bright blue glow reappeared. Pete was going to question Allie further, but was once again overtaken by the glow. As he drifted into unconsciousness, he heard Allie whisper "We’ll talk real, soon Peter Connors, oracle of Aphrodite."

When Pete awoke , having returned to his mother's bedroom. He noticed immediately the change Allie had mentioned. Pete realized...
