Chapter #3Bad Chemistry by: Rita "You're going to help me with a project," read the text from Rick. Pete was puzzled, he had never gotten a text from Rick before. He had given Rick his phone number months ago out of politeness but Rick never used it. Pete thought that Rick just wasn't a texting type of guy, either way the message was strange. Pete was too tired to work on some project with a guy he didn't actually care that much about. Pete sent a text back "Maybe some other time, man. I'm pretty tired"
"I wasn't asking you, I was telling you," read Rick's reply. Pete probably would have taken this as a threat, if not for the fact that Rick was one of the wimpiest guys in school. Rick was barely five feet tall and was skinny as a rail. Pete ignored Rick's strange messages as put his phone back into his pocket. Suddenly, Pete felt a towel around his mouth. Someone had snuck up behind and was trying to drug him. Pete smelled some strong, unfamiliar chemical that the towel was dosed in. Chloroform Pete went into survival mode, as he quickly turned and punched his assailant in the face. Pete would have continued attacking, if hadn't started to lose feeling in all of his limbs. Pete fell flaccidly onto the pavement as he stared up at the person who drugged him. Rick? Pete could make out a short, skinny man, holding his face in pain. Pete was going to scream for help, but the chloroform had taken it's toll. As Pete eyes forced themselves shut, the last thing he could feel was someone pathetically trying to drag his body somewhere.
...
"Wake up, Pete!" Rick snorted at Pete, waking him from his drug induced sleep. Pete found himself tied to a chair with knotted wires. Pete recognized the room he was trapped in as one of the chemistry labs in his school, All around him were diagrams of atoms and pictures of the elemental table. Directly in front of him, was a rather chipper Rick, busy working with a large active chemistry set. Test tubes and vials across the table were bubbling and changing bright colors.
"Rick," Pete tried to remain clam, clearly not being in the right position to be threatening, "What are you doing?"
"Did you ever hear why I was kicked out of my old school, Pete?" Rick ignored Pete question, as he continued to fiddle with the many vials in front of him, "Surely, you've heard the rumors?"
"Yeah, I heard rumors," Pete grunted, as he wiggle his left arm. The wires started to loosen, and Pete was sure he if could maneuver his arms correctly, that he would be free. All he had to do was distract Rick until then, "I heard that you turned into a monster and went on a murdering rampage. I heard that you gave a dog super intelligence and it took over your neighborhood. I also heard that you used school supplies to build yourself a sex robot. I think that one is the most believable."
"People can be ridiculous, can't they?" Rick chuckled as he looked over his shoulder at Pete, "I never took you for somebody to believe in that kind of stuff. You've always been very nice to me, and I honestly appreciate it, Pete."
"Is this how you repay kindness, Rick?" Pete asked, as he freed his left arm. Yes, one down! Pete tried to hide his smile and kept talking to his captor, "Maybe I should have left you alone. I wouldn't be strapped to this chair right now if I wasn't so nice."
"Ha! I guess you're right!" Rick laughed, as he turned from his mad scientist kit, holding a test tube in his hand. Inside the tube was a bright pink liquid. It looked like someone melted bubblegum and poured it inside a test tube. "See this," Rick pointed to the pink liquid, "This is what got me banned from my old school. For such an elite school, I thought they would have rejoiced at my scientific advancements. Instead they called me a madman. They were very upset that I tested it on a fellow student, but what's one life cost when I could makes millions of lives better? Either way, they told me I would be in jail for life after what I did to that girl, but luckily for me, they couldn't categorize what I did as a crime."
"You got off on a technicality?" Pete reminded himself to never trust a lawyer. His right arm was almost free at this point, Almost there, distract this manic just a little bit longer. "So," Pete tried to sound interested, "What does it do?"
"Don't want to ruin the surprise, Pete!" Rick held up his pink concoction , admiring his creation, "You should really feel honored. You're doing a great service to science, Pete."
"Well science will have to wait," Pete was now free from the tangled wires, "I'm gonna beat the shit out of you, you fucking lunatic!" Pete yelled and he lunged forward with a punch.
"Not so fast," Rick calmly said, as he jerked the test tube forward, sending the liquid onto Pete's face. Pete recoiled in pain as the liquid starting to activate.
"What did you do to me!" Pete screamed as the pain from his face traveled throughout his whole body. He felt like he was on fire, never feeling such intense pain in his entire life.
"Relax, Pete. Pain is normal," Rick jotted down on a clipboard how his experiment was going, "It's a small price to pay for you to... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
