“GIMME A W-I-N-N-E-R! WHAT DOES THAT SPELL?! WINNER!”
Lucy finished off her cheerleading routine with a stylish front flip and bowed daintily. “Thank you, thank you. I know I’m awesome.”
The cheerleading team gave a hearty clap, per usual. Even though it was only practice, Lucy loved to outdo everyone else. Must be that ferocious competitive spirit of hers. Apparently she got it from her mom. That made sense, as even Lucy had to admit mom was pretty scary, and super strict too. She made Lucy wear righty-whites 24/7 and ALWAYS write in cursive. It really sucked.
HONK! HONK! Speak of the devil, there she was, right on time to pick up Lucy from her after-school training session.
“Aw man, your mom’s here.” Lucy’s BFF since fourth grade, Amanda, walked up.
Amanda was a peppy Italian girl who always stuck by Lucy’s side, which really came in handy whenever she needed to win an argument. She also gave the best manicures, so that was a plus too.
Lucy raised an eyebrow. “What”s wrong? I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“I know,” Amanda pouted, “But I was hoping we could grab slurpies and hang out a little longer! Your mom NEVER lets you stay past practice, it’s no fair!”
That was true, Lucy’s mom would never be on board with plan slurpie… but hanging out with Amanda did sound like a lot of fun. She could just ignore her mom and pretend she didn’t hear later- maybe she’d catch her in a good mood and get off without punishment? It was unlikely, but Lucy really deserved that slurpie.
