This choice: Mary-Hanna Annison, CEO of DixieFitness, trying to Shape-up New Virginia. • Go Back...Chapter #2Mary-Hanna Annison, CEO of DixieFitness, trying to by: NVR Mary-Hanna Annison sighed and gave a disapproving look at the brochure of unhealthy meals that the interplanetary trip offered. She had her work cut out for her on this one. But with the backing she had on her side it was tough to say no. Even if she failed, she would make some enough money from this to keep expanding her fitness business on Earth, at home. Knowing she won't be eating any of what the ship would offer, she made sure she was carrying some granola bars with her, along with her favorite method to distract herself on long trips, headphones and her recording with affirmations.
Mary-Hanna was the example of a self made woman. She came from a poor, disfunctional family that didn't offer her much support, her aunt being the only person that seemed to have a centered life even if she wasn't successful. Aunt Linda owned a small business, and was known in the town for her kind and jovial nature, along with her wide overweight frame after years of indulging herself too much as part of what she called enjoying life. Mary-Hanna loved her, and she was sure without her she would have had a very difficult life, but as she furthered her education she eventually stopped seeing her aunt as a role model and started to see what she was doing wrong, both with her body and in the business she operated in.
Her desire to do better than her family and to have a financially stable life led her to a relentless transformation, and she went from a sweet but plump and awkward teen to an athletic, focused and driven adult that managed to establish a chain of gyms with trademarked fitness programs focused on replicating her success story onto others, as well as maintaining healthy improvement habits combining traditional wisdom with new age techniques. She knew she had a hit when even her obese aunt saw improvements on her figure under her tutelage, and after years of slow but steady growth she got lucky with a government contact that talked her up about the importance of fighting obesity in New Virginia.
And here she was. From her own research and what she was told, the enemy to tackle in New Virginia was called complacency. It wasn't like the Uranium thing they drilled out there was causing strange health complications no, simply that it allowed a level of economic prosperity that translated a bit too quickly into comfort, laziness, sedentarism and weight gain, to the point the locals started to prize obesity instead of fighting it. She shook her head thinking how the former version of her beloved aunt, someone who she knew was insecure about her looks just like she was as a kid, would apparently be considered beautiful in that planet, and everything she achieved, all her hard work and effort, considered a negative.
She waited patiently to board the ship, making sure again she had everything she needed. As for the project, she was confident on her methods to shape up New Virginia. She just needed to do some in person research first to know where to start.
