You look to the left, still frozen in place due to fear as you try to figure out what’s coming. Your fear only worsens when you see a black-and-white Border Collie enter the stable. It pants as it walks along, its brown eyes looking around at the horses.
Normally, you’d consider this a cute dog, and you’d be happy to see it. But at your current size, it could easily swallow you whole if it wanted to. You’re desperate to avoid getting caught by it, and you consider running back to the horse’s stall and squeezing under the gate again. But it’s too far behind you now, and the collie is covering a lot of ground. It’s almost reached you, and you can feel its paws shake the ground with each step.
The dog stops walking just a few feet away from you (from its perspective). It starts sniffing the air, tilting its head to the side in confusion. You gulp. It’s probably smelled your unfamiliar scent—Zimmerman never introduced you to his dog, after all.
Sure enough, the collie quickly determines the source of the scent, and looks right at you. Your heart skips a beat, and you feel like you’re about to faint. This is the first time a giant animal has actually noticed you. You evaded the horse because it didn’t even know you were in its stall. But there’s no escaping this dog.
Or is there? You might be able to get back to the stall after all, if you hurry. The dog may get startled, giving you a chance to escape, or it could simply lose interest in you. Then again, it’s a long distance to run, and you definitely won’t make it if the dog decides to chase you...
