"Honestly, I just want a haircut." Trying to be polite, you said. "There's no need to give me any special treatment."
"You're so humble." Bemused, the hairstylist said. "Very well. Would you like us to wash your hair before we cut it? It will make it look fuller."
You shrugged. "That's fine."
The hairstylist smiled. "Wonderful. I'm Dee, by the way."
Dee led you to a chair where you were turned around and leaned back so your longish hair draped into a clean sink. Dee then began to wash your hair, massaging you scalp. It almost immediately placed you into a state of relaxation; you hardly noticed that she was using a sweet smelling shampoo. Another stylist moved in and began to apply a cream to your face.
"What are you doing?" Startled, you demanded.
You almost sat right up but Dee gently held you down. "It's just a deep moisturizer, sweetie." Gently, she said. "My goodness; you are a jumpy one."
You blushed at that. "Sorry. It's been a strange and stressful day."
Dee smiled. "Then just let us help you unwind." Calmly, she said. "We are quite skilled at relieving tensions with a little pampering."
You sighed. "What do I have to lose?" Shrugging, you said.
Dee smiled, finishing washing you hair, then brought the chair up right again. Your eyes were closed due to the moisturizing mask they had put on your face so you could not see what Dee and her team were doing to you. However, they did tell you what they were doing as they did it.
"Your nails are cracking." Sounding concerned, another woman said. "You know, we offer a clear gel that can strengthen your nails."
"I really can't afford too much more." Wincing under the mask, you said.
"Don't worry about it." Almost giggling, Dee said. "We have free samples of almost everything to entice customers to buy them later."
Albeit reluctantly, you allowed the woman to work on your nails. You became worried when you felt them being filed but tried to to fidget from it. You did not want Dee to make a crocked cut or worse nick you as she was cutting your hair.
Finally, the mask came off but Dee urged you to keep your eyes closed. "I am going to give you a curly hairstyle." Smiling, she said. "I sort of want it to be a surprise but don't worry, I can change it if you don't like it."
You sighed when again shrugged. You could not see why the hair stylists were going through so much trouble just for a haircut and style. You felt a light brush on your face but did not protest. The women had gotten this far with you, there was no sense in protesting at least not until they were finished and you could see the results.
Nearly an hour later, Dee announced that she was done and turned you in your seat. "Tell us what you think, dear." Smiling, she said. "Are you cute or what?"
You opened your eyes and gazed at the mirror. "What did you do to me?" Stuned, you demanded. "I look like..."
