...take care of your hair.

“You are not pretty enough,” The voice in your head announces, and a sadness wells up in you. You want to be pretty. How can you be pretty? “To be pretty means to only have hair on your head. Long, long hair. There should be hair nowhere else. Then you can be pretty. You love being pretty. Pretty is all you care about.”
The words kept playing, and you knew you needed to obey them. You needed to be pretty. You walked to the bathroom, and after picking up a pack of razors, shaved off all your body hair. It took several razors, but after you could feel yourself become prettier.
A shampoo on the counter from your mom’s company caught your eye called Luscious Long Locks Fast. Instinctively, you took it and went into the shower, scrubbing it through your hair. By the time you were down, your hair wasn’t too far above your butt. You put on your clothes. Now you are pretty.
“Return to the mirror,” The voice says, a bit quieter but just as constant.
You do as instructed, and when you sit back down in front of it, the voice is loud again. You feel at ease. You don’t know what you’d do without the voice. You had needed it to tell you how to be pretty; surely it had other lessons to teach you.
The voice then announces, “You still are not pretty.”
Disappointment fills you. Still not pretty? No! You had to be pretty. Nothing else mattered if you were not pretty. Desperately, you beg the voice to tell you what you must do to be pretty. The voice says...
