Was the train ride always this long...?
Maya Fey, gorgeous twenty-eight year-old, burger connoisseur, and, on a side note, the Master of the Kurain Spirit-Channeling Technique, was not an expert in the field of patience. She'd never been.
The ride via train from her mountainous home of Kurain Village to the busy streets of Los Angeles was roughly a two-hour trip, but today it just felt so much longer.
Maya was always eager to get into the city. It had been a common part of her life for the past eleven years. Today in particular, however, she felt especially impatient with the rattling train bringing her there.
She had something she wanted to show to her best friend, the defence attorney Phoenix Wright.
Or "Nick", as she always called him.
The latest stage in her seemingly endless spiritual training had required her to go on a little excavation, digging a number of very old scrolls out of storage in Fey Manor.
She found the ones she needed, but another one jumped out at her back then, too. That last one was the reason for her current excitement.
The skyline of the city was finally in view out the window. Maya sat alone, drumming her fingers on her seat as she waited.
The scroll she'd found detailed a strange technique that very few mediums had ever managed to find any use in. Eventually, it appeared that the family line had just given up on it.
To summarize, the technique's intended effect was altering an individual's spiritual energy according to a medium's wishes. It could affect anyone, in theory, so long as they were alive and possessed control over their own body at the moment.
The scroll was a bit vague on the details, but if Maya understood it right, it could, when applied properly, physically shrink a person. It required intense training, but Maya felt motivated enough by the idea to give it a shot.
The medium's target could be reduced in size by altering the properties of their latent spiritual energy, whether or not they were personally capable of harnessing that energy at all. Their body would become smaller, as small as the medium responsible desired, but they would also gain a proportionate increase in their physical stability, on account of their spiritual energy having a much smaller body to inhabit.
Really, this was the most research Maya had done on the specifics of her training in quite some time. It just sounded like too much fun to ignore.
At last, the train arrived. Maya hadn't brought much with her, and she was ready to get off the train almost immediately.
"Niiick!!"
Once free of the crowd, she tackled Phoenix in a crushing hug.
As she held him, all she could think about was how her newly trained ability would affect him. Nick was a fair bit taller than her now, but not for long...   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
