So possible alien diplomats are

Iakov Sokolov, a thirty-five year old highly decorated spaceship captain who's done it all. Explorer, scientist, combat veteran and, when called upon, interstellar diplomate

Angela Palmer, a tall, dark-skinned eighteen year old cadet who is eager, capable, beautiful...and still very wet behind the ears. And this young cadet is about to be tossed into the middle of a diplomatic mission no one really wants her in...least of all her!
