Before the day Smith flew back home, he met this robed old crone just outside their desert encampment. She recognized her as the blind widowed crone whom he saved months prior when her entire village was taken hostage by terrorists. Despite losing her vision, she had the widest smile on her face when Smith emptied his magazine on the terrorists that were about to kill her. She didn't even flinch when she was splashed with blood after Smith hit one of the terrorists in the jugular.
Right before he was about to make preparations for his return, the old woman appeared out of the barracks. Smith remembered her sick blood-drenched smile. Seeing her alone makes him afraid. Smith teetered towards death during his time here, but nothing would come close to the sense of doom coming from this woman. And yet... something about her beckoned Smith to come. And so he did. He crouched so the woman could speak to him. He knew she spoke in another tongue, but somehow, he understood.
A gift, she said.
Those words remained unknown until today. One week into his supposed retirement, he thought he'd be right as rain now that he was with his family. But the horrors of the desert, the memories of blood-soaked sand, all of it remained in his mind. To make matters worse, Jake tried to get close to him. Something during his time absent from the house had changed him. He's getting a little touchy. One time he touched him on the neck, and all of Smith's self-defense intuition kicked in. He pinned Jake by the floor and nearly snapped his arm to two.
Jake didn't approach him after that. Then Brandon came into the picture and told him that Jake came out of the closet months ago. That's when Smith fit the puzzle pieces. His own little brother has affection towards him. No. That's can't be — Sure, he's also gay. But you can't do that between brothers. What would their own father even think!? It's embarrassing just to even think about it.
The more Smith thought about it, the more chaotic his thoughts became. And amid the chaos, the old crone appeared. Her last words repeated inside his head. It reigned a great voice and silenced the other thoughts. By the end of it, Smith was flying into his room. He's a ghost, that he realized. But he could revert back to his physical body and go back to his ethereal form. He's also gained a full understanding of the limits of this power. He could pass through walls and most important of all, the power to possess.
Smith phased through the walls and went for Jake's bedroom. He saw him on the bed, with his phone, while there was a stranger who did the same on the room's bean chair. He recognized the guy as Bernard, Jake's closest friend since elementary. The two shared an interest in video games. Not to be offensive, but it's always a mystery as to why Bernard even hangs out with Jake. Despite the nerdy interest, Smith heard that Bernard is quite famous on their campus. He could see it because they are just plain handsome. He's got this beautiful short blonde hair that matches well with his tanned skin.
Smith has a choice. Should he continue and possess Jake, or should he move on to Bernard?
