Spike watched eagerly as the gemstone he'd dug up on his latest trip with Rarity glowed in his hand. It was almost the size of his head and Rarity had insisted he take it as it 'would only work on a dress in Yakyakistan.' And sadly her business had yet to spread to the Frozen North. Twilight had said the gem had a magical signature she'd never seen before and that she'd examine it as soon as she returned from Canterlot.
Spike's stomach on the other hand, let its opinion be known with a loud rumble. "Come on, she'll be back soon," he frowned, but the only response he got was a louder growl from his belly. "Well, maybe just one bite wouldn't hurt." With a flash of his fangs, a tiny claw sized piece was cut from the gem. "Oh wow, this is good!" He exclaimed. The flavor of the gem was ten times more intense than anything he'd ever tasted before, and he wiped away a bit of drool. "One more bite."
That one bite though, turned into another, and another, and before Spike knew it the gem was gone. "Oh boy," he lay back, his scaly belly bulging. "Twilight's not gonna be happy," he thought as he closed his eyes and fell asleep. Inside his body, the gem's magic mixed with the draconic natural energy already there and...
