Cassandra, or Cassie, is a 7 year old girl who's just a little bit behind the curve as far as her size goes. Small, thin, and standing at just under 3'2", Cassie is a frequent victim of bullying at her school, where many of the other students tease and mess with her without any fear of repercussion. Her home life is arguably even worse, since her parents turn a blind eye to the antics of her 12 year old brother Derek, whose favorite pastime is messing with his "dear, sweet little sister". Fortunately for Cassie, things are about to change. Unbeknownst to her, she was enrolled in a special "wellness" program back when she was a baby; the experimental procedure was meant to improve its subjects' health and natural fortitude, enabling them to live longer, more fruitful lives. Now, after years of lying dormant, the chemicals in Cassie's body are finally going to begin taking effect.
The changes will be insignificant at first, an inch here and some firming up there, but over time they will gradually begin to add up. The procedure will cause the little blond pixie to go from below average to significantly ahead of the other children her age; she'll grow taller, stronger, and smarter than any 7-year old girl has the right to be. Eventually, Cassie might even be able to dwarf her own brother. This is to say nothing of the other developments that such an untested experiment might induce, such as increased vivacity or maturity - in more ways than one.
Most importantly though, this is the story of how Cassie's relationships with others (and with herself) will change as she grows. Will she become an ice queen who looks down upon those around her or a sweet well-adjusted girl that understands just how lucky she is? Or will she become something else entirely? That is what we are going to find out.
