Dakota had found Dina Donahue's speech very impressive.
Yes, she'd obviously been pandering to the crowd, but Dakota couldn't help but think that some of the things she said had been true. After all, she had overheard her parents discussing the move back in Texas, and one of the reasons that they were moving out was the more business-friendly policies that had recently been passed in Daven's Port. While Dakota didn't doubt that it wasn't only the mayor responsible for that, she also had to have a huge hand in getting it passed, right?
Additionally, Dakota had been looking for something to do since she'd gotten here. Hanging out with Zack and Piper was fun, but Dakota also had to admit that she wanted to be doing something meaningful. Getting a good leader (no matter what Zack said) re-elected sounded like that would fit the bill. Plus, it was a fairly good way to dip her toes into the political pool. If she found that, after the campaign was done, that she liked politicking, great! If not, no harm no foul since the campaign would be over anyway!
These were the thoughts that were swirling around Dakota's head as the three had lunch, and then eventually broke off to head home. Tomorrow, she'd sign up to volunteer for the re-election campaign. One thing that gave her pause, though, was wondering whether she might be able to convince Piper to sign up with her (Zack being too skeptical of Dina Donahue to even bother asking). Before today, she wouldn't have bothered. But with the way Piper had been cheering at the speech, it might be worth a shot to ask.
So, before they went their separate ways, that was exactly what Dakota did.
