Texas froze with terror as she watched the enormous horse's eyelids open, the pupils growing with surprise as they realized there was an intruder.
The sheriff put her finger over her lips in a "shhhh" symbol, desperately hoping Roxxie's horse had a little more mercy than her owner. She found the limits of her wishful thinking when the horse gave out a loud neigh of surprise.
"What's up, Butterscotch?" a familiar voice cried from inside the hideout. Texas' ears rang with terror as she heard the loud thumps of kangaroo feet moving down stairs. She was soon to be discovered.
"Well, well, well! What do we have here?" Roxxie asked with a massive grin as she peaked through the window of the stables and saw a small weasel staring back at her like a deer in headlights. "It looks like you're a few miles away from your jail cells, sheriff."
Tex reached for her pistol, but realized she must have lost it when she was blasted back by the horse's gas. It had probably sunk into the muddy ground of the rain-soaked stable, never to be found again.
"Ah don't need a jail cell to pummel you!" the sheriff bluffed, intimidation being her only weapon left.
"And I don't need to pummel you to pummel you." The kangaroo laughed as she locked the door to the stables and pulled up a lawn chair to the window. "You think Butterscotch was waking me up so I could deal with you? Nah. She was waking me up so I could watch."
Texas looked at the horse, which nodded in agreement. A smile crept across her face.
The sheriff screamed as she started running around the pen, the horse giving chase. The two darted back and forth throughout the small enclosure, Texas just barely dodging being trampled and bull-rushed with nimble leaps and wild-west agility. Her eyes frantically searched the room for any way she might be able to leave, but her options seemed to be vanishing fast.
The only possible exit seemed to be the window through which Roxxie watched the hilarious ordeal. Tex could easily dive through it, but it would take a lot out of her; then she'd be right at the feet of her least favorite kangaroo. Still... it might be the only chance she had.
