"I wholeheartedly agree, Texas!" Georgia laughed much to the collective confusion of her hired goons.
"I can't think of a better way to close the book on our relationship. You always were the better shot... but today I'm feelin' mighty lucky!"
It took Texas some amount of effort to keep herself from laughing as she continued to glare at her corrupt replacement. Little did Georgia know, her enthused response was exactly what Texas was hoping for. It didn't take a genius to see that Georgia held all the cards in this dispute. She was officially on the mayor's payroll and as such, was granted access to her near limitless supply of manpower and resources. Not that she even needed all of that to pose a threat. She had once been Texas' deputy for a reason, after all. Even if Texas wanted to skip town, it was only a matter of time before she was ambushed by her thugs and dragged back kicking and screaming.
All that said, the massive mare was far from unbeatable. She possessed two glaring weaknesses that Texas was had picked up on in all the time they had known each other. The first was her sub par marksmanship. While decent shot in her own right, the lumbering brute quick draw skills left a lot to be desired. This what in sharp contrast to Texas, who carried a reputation for her phenomenal marksmanship. Her second weakness was her compulsive need to one-up Texas. Nothing would bring Georgia greater joy than to beat Texas at her own game in front of the entire town of Gold Springs. It was simply too good of an idea for her to pass up.
"Alright, criminal. We'll meet at high noon in front of townsquare. Ten paces, turn--"
"Don't tell me howda duel! This ain't mah first rodeo" Texas spat back bitterly.
Her vitriolic response didn't sit well with Georgia's henchwomen as they began advance on the fearless weasel only to be reeled in yet again by Georgia's silent command.
"That's right. I want you to keep that fire in your belly, Texas. Hold onto it reeeeeal tight..." She said before standing up from her seat (or rather, Texas' seat) and gradually closed the distance between the two of them. Texas remained stonefaced even as the towering mare stood inches from her face. Georgia’s massive gut and heaving breast partially obscured her face from Texas’ view, though she could still sense that her long time rival was sneering down at her.
“It’ll make it all the more enjoyable once I trounce you” she snickered.
“Ah wouldn’t put mah money on it, Georgia. Ah’ve seen ol’ ladies who can draw faster than you” Texas said with a smirk.
Georgia’s smug grin quickly turned into a scowl as her fists clenched angrily. She wasn’t so badly to turn the former sheriff into a smear beneath her boot, but she restrained herself for the time being. She had been given the unique chance to beat Texas at the one thing she prided herself in, humiliating her in front of the whole town before whisking her away to a life of servitude beneath her flank. Plus, it would also serve as a deterrent from the potential do-gooders who had it in their head that they could depose the new sheriff.
“Real cute. You won’t be talkin’ all that smack after I’ve embarrassed you in front of the whole town” she growled before walking back over to the desk and plopping her enormous rear back onto Texas’ chair.
“Go on, git! You got two hours to get ready. If I find out you skipped town, I’ll have you hunted down and made into Mayor Vivian’s personal placemat” She said as she kicked her feet and leaned back. A smug smile crossed her face as she let loose a thunderous fart, her gaze fixed on Texas the whole time.
“You know ah don’t run” Texas said with a smirk before slowly backing out of the sheriff’s office, her eyes fixed onto Georgia’s trigger happy thugs. She made a mental note to have her chair thoroughly scrubbed down after everything was settled.
Two Hours Later
An eerie silence hung over the town of Gold Springs. Word of the encroaching duel had spread quick and all the townsfolk had taken shelter either within their homes. Texas could still feel them peering in on the town square where the two opposing figures began to advance on one another from opposite sides. Their hands were fixed on their respective holsters, though neither made any attempts to open fire.
It wasn’t long before they stood toe to toe with one another, their gazes meeting with intense focus. They felt no need to trade quips, as it no longer fit the mood of what was to come. Everything was on the line, for both the noble Texas and her corrupt ex-deputy. Texas was fighting for her badge and the good people of Gold Springs while Georgia was fighting for both the badge and to prove once and for all that she was more equipped for the job of town sheriff.
After they let the tension build for a solid minute, they drew their weapons and turned their backs to each other. In a moment of weakness, Georgia backed up and gently pressed her massive rear end onto Texas’ back, giving her a very minor sample of what was to come should she lose. Texas grimaced, though remained resolute. No amount of mind games could change the outcome of this duel.
As far as Texas was concerned, her victory was a foregone conclusion. Even if Georgia improved since the last time they had duked it out, there was no way that she could best the greatest marksman in all of Gold Springs. The only way should could even imagine Georgia coming out on top was if she cheated and while it certainly wouldn’t be out of character for her to do, Texas was confident that her ruse had done its job. By challenging her in front of her hired thugs, she had set up a situation where Georgia would have to make an example out of her or run the risk of having her abilities called into question. There were plenty of criminals who would do anything to be in her position the last thing she’d want was for them to think that she couldn’t fight her own battles.
The two rivals began to slowly was away, the both of them counting with each step they took.
