Jason finishes dressing. Then he gets up and heads for the door. He shrinks out of his clothes a second time. The Inventor fishes him out of his clothes, puts him next to the desk and returns him to normal size. Then The Inventor grades papers. Jason slowly reaches for his clothes again, dresses again and heads for the door. He shrinks out of his clothes a third time. The Inventor patiently retrieves him, puts him next to the desk and returns him to normal a third time.
Jason decides to skip the clothing because he is tired of redressing. He races outside as fast as he can. The Inventor's front yard is enclosed by a hedge that blocks the view. Jason manages to close the door behind him and almost makes it past the hedge. He runs so fast that when he shrinks, his momentum fling his tiny body into the hedge. He is sore but he doesn't detect any injuries.
The Inventor takes his time retrieving Jason. Jason has enough time to recognize that there is no way the professor could have shot him with the ray gun this last time. It must be the tag the professor spoke about, the tag caused the shrinking. But whatever the tag is, it must be microscopic because even at Jason's mere inches in height, he can't detect any tag.
The Inventor finally opens the door. Using a walker, he slowly makes his way across the yard. He groans as he bends down to look at Jason who realizes that, no matter how much he's faster than the professor, escape is hopeless. The Inventor crouches down on the ground and just looks at Jason for a while. The Inventor has all the time in the world. Jason, on the other hand, is not going anywhere and will never go anywhere again without a need to be rescued by the professor..
Jason realizes that it's kind of nice being out in the garden with the professor. He's so patient and the weather is so peaceful. Jason leans back and relaxes. The professor relaxes too.
After maybe about ten minutes, The Inventor slowly stands up, plucks Jason from the hedge, takes him back to the desk and returns him to normal. The Inventor grades papers ignoring Jason.
Jason dresses but doesn't try to escape. He thinks about hurting the professor but decides against it since he needs the professor so much. Jason sits on a couch in the library and observes the professor. The Inventor grades papers and ignores Jason.
"It's not part of my job description to be your guinea pig."
"It is now."
"I only came here to remind you to take your medicine and to make sure you are taking care of yourself."
"Then you better get to it. As soon as you are ready, I'll shrink you down and carry you to my medicine cabinet. Until you are ready, I'll continue to forget my meds."
There is a long pause in the conversation.
"Don't you have any empathy? Can't you see this from my perspective? You kidnapped me."
"I guess I did didn't I. I'm sorry. I am being unfair. I'll make you a deal. After today, you can submit a schedule to me of when you want days off. Almost any time you want time off, you can have it. I'll sometimes even let you decide how small you want to be."
Jason knows that he can't escape but the patience of The Inventer is amazing. They wait for hours while The Inventor ignores Jason. A few people visit briefly but Jason knows not to risk being shrunk and The Inventer is absolutely calm at all times.
"What if you fall asleep and I escape?"
"By tomorrow, you will shrink."
"But I can ask for days off?"
"Yes. You can even have weeks off if you want to travel but you have to tell me first how long you will be gone. The day you are supposed to be back here you will shrink."
"You're not going to use me for sex, are you?"
"My interests are purely scientific."
"So you're going to dissect me instead."
"As tempting as that sounds, I'd be out one guinea pig that way. No, I give you my word of honor that I will not harm you and I will try to avoid causing pain."
Jason waited a few more hours for good measure but it was clear The Inventor would not give up. "Fine. I'm your guinea pig."
"Take off you clothes, fold them neatly and bring them to me."
Jason did so and then covered himself. The Inventor put Jason's clothes in a drawer of his desk.
"Don't cover yourself. I need to see what I'm working with." The Inventor then measured every part of Jason's body.
