Mom's sandals quickly fade from your memory. You keep looking and calling for your dad.
Eventually, however, you see movement in the distance. You aren't able to detect what it is, but you approach it. You stop calling for your dad as you come closer.
The movement seemed to have come from inside a pair of your mom's shoes. You sneak up to the shoe and find that the flip-flop next to it has been pushed up against it. Unable to see into the shoe at your height, you climb onto the flip-flop. Then, you climb up the strap of the flip-flop and peek into the shoe.
Inside, you see your Dad, who is trying to jump up and grab the lip of the shoe without success.
"Dad?" you ask, confused. "What are you doing in there?"
"Huh?" You see the surprise in his face when he hears you. "Uh, never mind that. I can't get out. I need help."
"How do I get you out?"
"Try," he begins, "letting down one of the shoe laces."
You climb onto the shoe from the flip-flop and start to tug at the laces.
"I can't get them loose," you say. "They're too tight."
"OK," Dad says. "All right. Um, give me a minute to think."
You try to figure out a way as well but come up with nothing.
"OK, son," he finally says. "Place your feet somewhere sturdy up there and reach down in here. Maybe you can pull me out."
You tuck your feet under the intertwining laces of the shoe and then extend yourself into the shoe. You reach out and you feel your dad take your arms.
"Hold on tight," he says.
However, you find that your dad is too heavy for you to pull up. Unfortunately, your feet also come loose in the attempt, and you are pulled down into your mom's shoe with your dad as well.
"Damn it!" you hear your dad mutter.
As you get up, you see what has your dad worried. The lip of the shoe is far too high for you guys to reach, even jumping.
