It was another lonely day for Acro in his small room. He knew the circus was beginning to do well for itself thanks to its new star, "Maximilian Galactica", but it didn't matter a whole lot to him if he couldn't participate. Ever since the incident with the lion, he hadn't been able to walk at all, let alone be an acrobat. The fact that his brother was comatose only worsened his depression. The thoughts of all the other entertainers still going on as though nothing had happened made him almost as angry as it did sad.
As he sat in his room, emotions festering whilst the circus lights flickered in the distance, he heard a sudden rustling from the window. "Money, is that you?" he asked. Sure enough, the circus monkey climbed through the open pane, carrying a small box in its hands. "What'd you take this time?" he asked gently, happy to atleast get some company even if it was a kleptomaniac chimpanzee. The monkey put the box down on his lap and gestured to it, as though telling him to open it.
"Alright alright, I'll look at it," he said reassuringly. Opening the box up, he laid out the device and began reading over the instructions. "Hah! What a lovely thought, body swapping. Would be nice to have my legs back... way back when I could basically fly. Kind of a mean joke if it was meant for me."
Being able to walk would be nice, but it wouldn't solve Acro's problem. He was angry that the whole event was swept under the rug. He knew no one meant for him or his brother to get hurt, but it didn't stop him from just getting more and more upset every time the ringleader's daughter spoke of his brother in such light terms. "He's a star now," she would say, as though she didn't even realize it was her fault.
If this thing worked, he had to wonder where the limitations could be. He'd definitely be able to feel like part of the circus again if he swapped with one of the other entertainers. Heck, he'd able to move around on his own if he so much as shape shifted, right? A part of him quietly wondered what would happen if he used it on someone who was comatose. All the possibilities, for fulfillment, revenge, and even some sort of salvation gave him hope for a second, even if he thought the device was probably fake. "Well, I have nothing to lose, right?" he asked Money, who nodded in a fast motion. "May as well use it; if it doesn't work, then no one's loss."
