I know, I know, Pokemon doesn't have much for dolls.

But there is a doll pokemon that came to life when abandoned. So there's a possibility of making Gewendys into pokemon that dominate their trainers.

And the first season did have Sabrina, who had psychic powers and a thing for dolls. So if we were to put Gwendys into this, they'd probably represent her ignored sex drive. The more they are around Ash and company and have fun with them, the More the Gwendys take over Sabrina... Until Sabrina is nothing more than a Gwendy with powerful psychic powers.
