Chapter #6

Lily, a 20 year old murder victim

    by: DeeKayWon Author IconMail Icon
Original author: Detective Barricade

You're rather excited for your date tonight. You met Lily on an online dating service, and she's quite the looker. Long, flowing white-blonde hair; grey eyes; generous curves...but she seems a little pale. Still, it could have been the lighting... But she agreed to come over to your place for the date, as she claims that she and public locations don't mix so well.

You clean yourself up and try to set up a welcoming mood in your home. Then you sit down and wait patiently for 7:00, the time Lily said she was coming over. Yet 7:00 rolls around, and there's no sign of a car approaching your driveway or anything to suggest Lily was actually coming. By 7:30, you're just about ready to accept that you had been stood up and that she isn't coming. You check your email to see if she sent you any updates about tonight that you might have missed, but there's nothing of the sort.

Suddenly, the power starts flickering wildly. Then comes an odd chill, even though it's a warm evening tonight... Finally, a feminine voice whispers in your ear with a slight giggle, "So. When do we get started?"

You turn your head to the source of the whisper and yelp in fright at being unexpectedly having company so close. Normally, you enjoy a good scare every now and again. But this is ridiculous! Once you regain your senses, you see that the whisperer is none other than Lily! She seems to be a good 6'10" to 7 feet tall, quite a bit taller than you. She's wearing a black tee shirt with the image of a ghost inside of a red crossed out circle - a Ghost Busters shirt. She's also wearing tight-fitting blue skinny jeans, albeit a bit faded. And she's also laughing her head off.

"Oh, that was too funny! You should see the look on your face. You looked like you were about ready to jump outta your skin!" Lily says as she calms down from her fit of laughter.

You stumble to find words. You're aroused by her height, but still spooked by her sudden appearance in your house. You didn't hear her come in, you didn't hear a car pull into your driveway, so how did she get inside? "H-how d-did you manage t-to...?" you begin.

Lily sighs and the power restores in full. "...Get in? Through the door, duh. I'd say that you look like you've seen a ghost, but I already know the answer." she replies.

"I-I've seen a ghost?" you ask in confusion.

"Um...yes. Yes you have. In fact...you're kind of looking at her right now. I'm...well, dead." Lily answers with a hint of sadness. She then picks up and looks at your TV remote out of curiosity.

Well that explains the pale complexion... Still, Lily seems friendly enough. "Wait. If you're a ghost...how can you be touching my remote? And isn't a Ghost Busters shirt kind of ironic for a ghost?" you question, slightly suspicious.

To this, Lily giggles slightly and responds, "What, this old thing? I was wearing this when I was murdered. College shootout. Luckily I was the only death, my classmates were injured but lived. My killer though... The guy goes and puts a bullet into his own head! Why didn't he just do that first? Would have saved me from this fate, and a whole lot of heartache...

"And I can touch your remote because I wanna touch it. If I don't wanna touch something, then I just pass right through it. Can't say I've tried making something I'm holding onto pass through another object with me yet though..."

You feel quite sorry for Lily and try to comfort her with a hug. She feels...unexpectedly warm. And substantial. But her condition does intrigue you, so you ask, "I don't mean to be rude or anything, but...what's it like being a ghost?"

Lily answers, "Aside from the admittedly fun things I get to do? Not all that much different from being alive. Granted, I don't need to eat, and most of what I do eat just falls to the floor right through me... And I don't even need to watch my weight anymore! The sucky part comes with the knowledge that you're basically stuck here forever. When the Sun goes nova in a few billion years and turns Earth and whatever bugs still gnawing at old bones of humans long dead into extra crispy ice balls, you'll still be around to watch it. Not even popcorn to enjoy the show.

"Still, the GA meetings are kinda fun."

"GA meetings?" you wonder.

"Ghosts Anonymous. The Headless Horseman founded it once he got tired of his spooky act to help fellow spooks cope with being undead and even how to blend in with the living. Though I still feel for some of these people. Like Serena for instance. 6 years old when she succumbed to a completely curable disease had it been caught in time." Lily responds as she starts flipping through channels.

You consider asking Lily about her height when...

You have the following choices:

1. She suddenly grows a little bit!

*Noteb*
2. Nothing. You ask away.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
