When Josh got to Jen's house he found nobody there. At first, Josh was pissed that Jen hadn't waited for him. Then he realized that the rain had abated and what day it was. It was Halloween and obviously since it wasn't raining anymore Jen had taken Kira out trick-or-treating. He finally noticed the scores of trick-or-treaters in search of candy walking around the neighborhood. He decided to go home.
Once home, it didn't take long for the trick-or-treaters to knock on his door. Josh handed candies to the children and commented on their costumes. Josh loved trick or treat but he was getting too old.
Usually the children arrived in groups of three or four. But as luck would have it, one young girl arrived alone. Her mother was waiting at the front off the walkway as she knocked on the door and said the usual reframe " trick or treat". Her mother was too far away to hear the conversation.
The little girl up about 8 was dressed in a Southern Belle costume. It was mostly peach in color, with a white front, hat, fan and gloves. https://www.chasing-fireflies.com/produc...
" Wow, that is a very pretty costume," Josh said. He just gave the girl a lot of candy.
She smiled at him and said getting into character, " Thank you, kind gentleman."
" I wish I could wear a costume like that."
" Really?"
" Yeah, Halloween is a time of pretend. When you can be anything you want."
" You are right."
"I have an idea. Would you like to swap with me?"
The girl thinking that this is all pretend said, "Sure."
