"Cut! Print! We're watching the dailies in twenty minutes."
Activity was nonstop on the set of Cosmic Crew Central Station, the latest series in the Cosmic Crew Entertainment media library. For fans of the classic cartoons of Gerbert and the gang, along with fans of the iconic restaurant, it was going to be one of the biggest shows ever. The studio had managed to construct a sleek looking space station for the primary set of the show.
The interior was built somewhat like the main dining hall of the Gerbert Gerbil's restaurant, only in a round room with other features of the space station branching off. Everything was decked out in red trim and chrome, both retroactive and futuristic in the design. And like many filmed sets, all cleverly built to provide the illusion of television. The sets were built on raised platforms to allow for the puppet and animatronic controls to be built underneath. Tracks, wires and cables needed for more of the articulated characters were hidden out of sight of the camera shots.
A good looking set for its time. It would help if the shooting schedule wasn't so stressful. Based on early viewership the studio was trying to crank out as many episodes as possible, making the actors and technicians almost work nonstop. To say nothing of the animation department, under even worse deadlines to get the animated sketches finished.
But like they say, a production is only as good as its crew. Although this was their first television show for several in the cast and crew, the main studio operatives were no strangers to the requirements to keep filming going. Makeup, lighting, effects, sound tech, and set design ran smoothly. Owing to the long hours demanded at the studio the break table was lavish. Nearly as expansive as the Gerbert's restaurant menu. While the televised segments had their bit product placement for the franchise food nearly anything could be found for the break table after a few days. A modicum of comforts that kept cast and crew happy.
It seemed like the show could only get bigger and bigger for its new season. Which would hopefully distract everyone from those nasty rumors spreading around the studio. Every production had its own share of problems, no show was ever perfect. Be they factual or not Cosmic Crew Central Station was said to be plagued with many stange occurrences and breakdowns. They said never to work with children or animals in this business; however, that adage should be expanded to never work with animatronics. Even like human actors and operators they could flub up in eerie ways.
But seriously, all those issues the show faces are unfounded. Right? ......right?
