It was dinner time for that royal family, and as usual delicious food of many varieties covered the table. A large and freshly baked butterscotch and cinnamon pie, the treat Toriel loved to make, was placed in the center.
Usually Asriel's mouth, alongside his father, would be drooling at the sight of it, but the goat prince found that he was distracted. He pushed the food around in his plate, not feeling very hungry, completely silent.
His parents was talking up a storm, though, calling each other sickeningly sweet things and feeding one another from their plates. Asriel's silence, however, didn't go unnoticed for long.
"Asriel, my boy, is everything alright?" Asgore asked his son.
Asriel snapped out of his trance, looking at his parents. "I-I'm fine," he stuttered after a few moments.
"Are you sure?" his mother asked, "You're awfully silent. And you barely touched your food. Are you sick or something, my dear?"
"I..." Asriel tried to speak, but his thoughts began to wonder again. He stared at his mother blankly, as if seeing her for the first time and really taking in how beautiful she was.
