"I think I'll take the book." Julia said excitedly as she did her best to reach for the tome that still lay on the counter, but was soon had her attempt foiled by the young girl. "Huh?" She asked as she looked over at the girl.
"You still have to pay for it." She replied with a grin. "Then you'll have to wait until you leave the shop for the book to unlock." She then held out her hand and with a grin on her face she said. "That will be $31.56." Julia looked at her with an odd look and doubted that she had that much with her. She reached into her pocket and pulled out exactly $31.56.
"How did you know how much I had?" Julia asked in wonderment as she quickly gave her the amount that she had in her hand over to the young girl whose smile didn't wane.
The young girl, without missing a beat, answered her. "I need to know everything about my customers if I want to run a good business." She cocked her head slightly, but then opened her eyes to see Julia looking a little distraught. "Or it was just a lucky guess."
Julia chuckled nervously as she grabbed the book and made her way over to the door where she could see her family waiting for her. "At least you found something." Richard commented as he ruffled her hair slightly to help emphasize the point. "All that I could see was a couple useless things. Come on and let's get back home before it gets too late."
Jason looked back at his Dad as they started to leave the run down building. "I thought you said that we would stop somewhere to eat." He asked as he heard his stomach rumbling with the mere mention of food.
"We will see if there's a good place to stop on the way home." He said with a smile as he motioned for him to the SUV. Soon they all found themselves buckled into their seats. Julia was lucky enough to secure the back seat to her self and was eager to open her new possession.
Julia looked around the old and musty tome to find a way to open it, but soon became frustrated when she wasn't able to find anything. "How am I supposed to open this thing?" She said quietly to herself but heard a small 'click'. "Huh?" Julia looked back down at the tome and found that it wasn't locked anymore and eagerly opened it. She watched in wonder as the words started to form on the pages. At first it seemed to be in what looked like Spanish, but soon the shimmer happened once again and the words changed to Modern English. "Wow." She whispered as she continued to read. 'This is going to be interesting.' She thought to herself. 'Life swaps, Trait swapping, and other stuff.' "Hmm Life Swap would be really neat." She whispered to herself as she didn't notice the shimmering as she closed it.
She was soon brought out of her own thoughts by her Mom saying something to the family. "Alright guys. We're going to have lunch and go back home." Julia heard her own stomach grumbling. She put the book down and placed an old jacket over it to hide it while they went inside to eat.
