Chapter #6

A really bizarre crew

Elizabeth walked under the deck, and found all the crew already sitting on the barrels around the table.

She took a seat next to Katy, who was chugging down the rum from her bottle as usual.

"You could've told me the party was ready" commented the captain to her first mate with a wry smile.

"I did" replied the redhead before letting out a belch "*URP* Eh Kojina, pass me another bottle" she said to the half-orc sitting in front of her.

"Sure" replied Kojina throwing a bottle to the first crewmate, while drinking a bottle herself. This latter detail surprised Elizabeth, from what she remembered, Kojina hated rum, but she shrugged her shoulders and ignored it, maybe she decided she liked it now.

In the meantime, the other crewmembers were making a big noise together, which disappeared after a big bellow from the ships cook.

"Shut-up, if you want to eat something!"

Yelling at them was a portly woman with long black hair, wearing a stained brown apron in front of her round belly. She was Arlene, the chef of the crew. While Elizabeth was the captain of the ship, in the kitchen, Arlene was the undisputed ruler.

All of the crewmembers watched with trepidation as the chef served the usual slop with eggs and fish. Elizabeth was surprised by what was seeing; the moment a pirate-girl got her grub, she would quickly eat it and asks for seconds once she finished every scrap, could it be that it was better than usual?

Elizabeth ate it, but for her it seemed the usual slop, and yet, even the youngest members of the crew, Phania and Lessya, were having seconds.

Lessya and Phania were a couple of blonde twin elves with short hair, they where the ship boys (or in this case, girls) and Phania wore an eye-patch on her eye (which eye changed continuously) only to distinguish herself from her twin.

Still, once the large pots were emptied and nearly everyone was having seconds, Elizabeth made her speech.

"Alright girls! I hope you're enjoying your lunch" probably even too much, she thought "because today we're gonna sail to the rock-fang, so it's going to be a couple of weeks journey! But be prepared, because we're assaulting every noble ship we're going to see, so I want you all ready! I'm talking especially to you, Winona" said Elizabeth to a harpy with white and gray feathers, like those of a seagull, and the mouth full of slop, with some sauce dipping from her lips.

This harpy was the crew lookout, thanks to her race's enhanced vision, meaning that her job was to warn the captain about whatever she glanced at on the horizon.

Still, there was no answer from the harpy "Winona, did you hear me?" Barked Elizabeth, louder this time, "Winona!"

This time the harpy heard it and with a clawed hand on the forehead, said "Aye aye captain" before diving back to empty her bowl. Elizabeth wasn't much surprised by that, Winona was far from the brightest of the crew, but what bothered her was that barely anyone listened to her today.

"Seriously, what's happening to you? This seems the usual slop Arlene makes…" Speaking of Arlene, she couldn't find her anywhere, where has she gone already?

This didn’t bother the captain much, and simply said "Alright, crew! Lunch time is over! Everyone go back to their job" and gave a glare to the young elf twins "Even you two! I want the deck to sparkle" said before getting up and going back to her cabin, where she could admire her treasures.

Elizabeth was playing with an emerald idol in her hands. According to the person she stole-ahem, gently took it from, it was made by a tribe in the Motee marshes and represented a goddess. Though for Elizabeth was more a fat tiger-woman in a buddha-like pose (And body). She liked it, especially because it was so round it seemed like it could roll away from her hands at any given moment. Once she got bored she placed it carefully back in the chest.

She looked at her newly-acquired treasure, the necklace she was wearing, and noticed that the snakes on it were biting their tails... had it always been this way? She shrugged it off and left her cabin.

She reached the navigator's room. "Hey Kojina, how is the navigation going?" Asked Elizabeth, as she abruptly opening the door.

The half-orc turned around with her hands behind her back.

"W-well" replied the navigator.

Elizabeth got closer to Kojina. She was a half-orc, meaning that, while her face was still thin-boned in-build, rather pretty and human-like, she had some small sharp canines and a green-gray skin. She also had long black hair and was on the chubby side.

"Where are we now?" Asked Elizabeth as she leaned onto the table covered with maps.

While the captain was distracted, Kojina put the fish she was hiding in her mouth and swallowed it as fast as she could. Elizabeth heard some munches and turned around, but Kojina tried to stay vague.

"Can you answer me, please?" Repeated the captain.

"Oh, sure" said the half-orc pointing on the map "at the moment we're here, but judging by the wind and the pressure, we have to take a long trip to avoid the storm, but it will take just three-four days longer"

"Couldn't expect nothing less from you" said Elizabeth in a proud tone. Kojina was, after all, one of the best navigators of Yndyre, and had all the maps memorized in her head.

"Yeah... thanks" replied Kojina awkwardly. In truth, there was no storm coming, but wanted to take the long route so the ship had to stop to Carchan, where they could get more food.

"Do you happen to know where Katy is?" Asked Elizabeth.

"N-no, why would I?" Asked Kojina.

"Well, according to the rumors, you two are pretty close" said Elizabeth, grinning maliciously.

"Pffft it's just a rumor. Probably spread by Arlene, she should just think about cooking…not who is in bed with whom" replied Kojina leaving the room, mentioning the word 'cooking' had made her hungry again, and she absolutely needed to raid the pantry.

Elizabeth shrugged, "Whatever, better get some rest if it will be a long trip" with a stretch of her arms.
So she leaned on a chair and took in the sun, noticing how the crew around her was strangely quiet. It had been one weird day, thought the pirate captain.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Suddenly, a ship appears on the horizon

2. The ship docks in Carchan, time to store more food

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
