Sat in her room after school, Madison was sending a text to her friend Jennifer Lawson, 15, when the MTV channel she was listening to on the TV suddenly stopped... and static appeared for a few seconds. She sighed and looked up, thinking maybe the cable signal had got lost. But then the screen returned, but instead of Miley Cyrus singing a song... it was a bearded man in a brown suit and blue shirt smiling straight into the camera. "Don't you ever wish you could bring some excitement into your life? Are you bored with the same old school work and daily routine? Don't you wish that you had a unique power that could allow you to not only give you an edge in life, but also allow you to get some good old fashioned payback on those who annoy you? Or maybe you just want to mess with people for amusement's sake? Well that's fine too."
Thinking it was a weird commerical of some kind, Madison sighed, then mumbled to herself. "Yeah, that'd be awesome!"
"Well that's good to hear young lady, I think I can help you." The man on the TV said, causing Madison's head to jolt upwards again. She stared at the TV for a moment, and at the grinning man on screen.
"Wait, what?" She said, gulping hard.
The man laughed. "You watch people on TV all the time Ms Lui, is it so far fetched that someone on it would actually talk to you from it?" He said, sounding rather jovial.
"Er... yeah, actually it is. This is creepy!" Madison stated, shifting uncomfortably.
"Well I wouldn't want to do that Madison," the man said, addressing her now by her first name, "let's just get things rolling shall we. He then did a swift motion with his hands and directed them at the 'camera'. Some sort of electrical discharge or energy bolt shot out of the TV and struck Madison in the chest... knocking her off the other side of her bed. "Sorry about the knockback, kind of unavoidable when bestowing a power on someone. But I'm sure you'll agree when you start enjoying yourself with your new ability, that it's well worth a few strands of burnt hair." The man chuckled. "Have fun now Madison!" He saluted, as Madison's head slowly emerged above the bed again.
"What the fuck?!" She gasped, brushing her disheveled hair from her face. The TV screen was full of static again, and seconds later the MTV channel came back on. This left Madison more than a little stunned and confused. As she stood up, she suddenly became aware of a cache of knowledge now lurking at the back of her mind. Apparently... she now had the ability to swap people's heads around just by thinking.
"Woah!" Madison muttered, glancing back at the unsent text message on her phone on the bed.
She had an idea that her life had just changed dramatically...
