A Crown

    by: Aaa Author IconMail Icon
It was a damn long shot, but Adam believed that with the sceptre, they could find an Egyptian crown. Problem was they probably fell apart millennia ago. Trying to find one would be impossible, but Adam was so sure, Simon eventually gave up and let Adam have his fun. Searching for hours, it seemed like they'd covered every spot Adam felt to dig. Both men felt extra sweaty on both sides of their chest, though they didn't realise their unknown budding breasts were trapping sweat and sand.

Eventually the two began to leave. The desert in the day was blisteringly hot, the nights freezing cold, and they had no intention of boiling or freezing. At least, Simon felt that way. But Adam instead grabbed the necklace from the Jeep, placed it around his neck, and went back to searching. Simon was beginning to think Adam was losing his mind. If the boss happened to walk over and find Adam wearing artifacts he'd supposedly handed over, too many questions would be raised.

Searching once again, it was getting close to night. Any longer and they'd have to quit and come back tomorrow. That was when they stumbled onto something grander then any artifact. A staircase, leading down into what looked like and ancient building. Adam pressed on, but Simon swore he'd searched the area a thousand times, and never saw any building.

A room was found at the bottom of the stairs, inside, they found a crown, but it was nothing like the crowns the Pharaohs had worn. There were busts of Cleopatra wearing a similar crown, but not as fancy, and impossible to verify. On a bust, worn from age, there was a gold diadem, inlaid with black gems, with thin long golden strands tumbling down from the base. In the center, there lay the image of a cobra, seemingly poised, ready to strike.

Adam gleefully picked it up, placing the crown on his head. "Holy shit Simon, do you know how much this might sell for?!" He said excitedly. Checking out the rest of the room, they found a hallway leading to more rooms. Adam desperately wanted to more of the building, but Simon refused, convincing him they could return tomorrow. "Besides, we're barely avoiding suspicion as is. The boss has to be wondering where we keep finding these things. Wait a few days, hand a fake crown over, and we can explore."

As Simon went to leave, Adam spotted another object, quickly picking it up before Simon could see, and followed his friend out. It was hard to leave, as he felt a connection to this place. Sometimes he swore there was a voice whispering to him, telling him to wear the artifacts they found. It was oh so tempting to wear them, they seemed to fit perfectly on his body. Every time a new artifact was found, Adam had to wear it. He even woke up wearing the necklace that morning, though he knew for a fact he'd left it with Simon.

He tucked the artifact in his bag, then followed Simon out of the building. He couldn't believe what he had found.
