Working his brush back and forth across his find. Adam knew he was onto something special. Each stroke revealing more and more of the artefact. Simon watched avidly over his shoulder, both terrified to damage the ancient item. It was clearly a comb, and from the gilt details holding the teeth in place, clearly an impressive piece and a high-status artefact.
Each brush of the bristles revealed more, and both men held their breath. Adam petrified that he'd damage it, while Simon kept expecting to see some damage, a snapped spine on the comb, or missing teeth.
However, it looked virtually perfect. As if it were merely covered in dust, rather than four thousand years old. Eventually, the other end was revealed, and Adam let loose a gasp that he hadn't realised he was holding in. The last dust and sand billowed as he exhaled.
The hieroglyphs confirmed it was Queen Niratitti's personal comb. Cautiously, he picked it up. It felt substantial and solid. Adam looked about, as if expecting the world's press to leap out from behind some sand dune to capture the moment. He resisted the urge to see how strong the spine was by bending it.
"It's for holding hair in place, rather than tidying it." Simon observed.
Adam nodded his agreement, it was too short, and the teeth long and thick. Simon ruffled Adam's hair, "We did it!" he said, shifting to patting him on the back.
