"Shhh," he murmured, his voice a low rumble she felt in her bones. "There's no need to be afraid."
"I'm not afraid," she lied, trembling in his hands. "I just want to go home!"
"This is your home now," he said gently, sadness tingeing his words. "You belong to me, little one, and I'm going to take very good care of you."
Charlie shook her head, refusing to believe it, but in her heart she knew the truth. She was never going home. She was nothing but a plaything for the giant, a pet to be kept and pampered and used however he saw fit.
