This choice: Singling out Makoto, who she just recognized upon closer inspection. • Go Back... Makoto was fearful enough of her stern sister in reality. In the Metaverse, she had been even more unsettling, the dark attire and the golden eyes creating a nightmarish visage. Now, towering above them at a height that would dwarf the entire casino, the once-confident Queen of the Phantom Thieves were pratically paralyzed. She couldn't imagine a more terrifying sight.
And then Sae's eyes glared down at her.
"Is that..?" The sneering smile had waned in favor of an expression of confusion. "No, it can't be..."
The giantess walked closer, one earth-shaking heel in front of the other. The few members of the Phantom Thieves that weren't still in shock from their shrinking situation brandished their weapons against the footwear as it passed, hoping against hope to bring her down, but whether it was Skull's heavy metal bat or Crow's burning laser blade, nothing made a dent against the onyx-black material. Sae walked past the group towards the speck that was once Queen, leaving the shrunken thieves to wonder if she had ignored their assault or if their attacks were that pathetic now that she hadn't even noticed at all.
The shadow's massive body loomed over the group as Sae knelt down, the piercing golden eyes leering as they examined Makoto in more detail. Makoto's body willed her to raise her fists or fire a shot or flee in terror, to do anything, but the girl were frozen in place. She could do nothing but watch as Sae's eyes widened.
"...M-Makoto?!"
Joker instinctively threw himself in front of Queen, leveling his pistol at the giant and shooting a defiant look. "Stay back!" He ordered, not a hint of fear in his voice.
The stunned expression on Sae's face remained for a moment, before she absentmindedly lowered a hand towards the group. The two shrunken thieves stepped back in hesitation, but it was only Queen that noticed the arrangement of Sae's hand - an index finger curled down, poised behind the trigger of a thumb.
"JOKER, LOOK OUT!"
Joker instinctively tried to roll to the side, but Sae's movement was too fast - the teenager was punted clear into the distance by the enormous flick of a finger, sending him reeling across the casino floor. Queen stretched out an arm and called for Joker in her panic, and in the moment that she stopped locking eyes with Sae, a gigantic hand snatched her up. Queen struggled against the thick black glove ensnaring her, her stomach dropping to her feet as Sae straightened up and raised her fist to eye level. As one half of the Phantom Thieves ran over to check on Joker while the more stubborn half continued to launch futile attacks against the skyscraper-sized shadow, Sae unclenched her hand, revealing Makoto up close to her golden eyes.
Makoto felt a genuine chill roll down her spine as she stared at the looming face of her sister's inner demon, the eyes burning with grief and anger.
"YOU LIED TO ME."   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
