Chapter #4Something Something Timelines Not Canon by: Frost “She’s a transfer student. It was a last minute decision to assign her here.” Mitsuru Kirijo paused for a moment, scanning the new girl standing in front of her. “Oh, I thought there was supposed to be another student. Your brother, right?”
Minako Arisato bit her lip. She had been at the dorm for no longer than two minutes, and she met a creepy death-boy and a girl her age brandishing a gun like it was a handbag. So far, it was exactly what she had expected going to a high school in the city would be like.
“Th-they didn’t tell you about him?” Minako asked. She bit her tongue, realizing she might have had said too much.
“What do you mean?” asked the younger girl, the one with the gun attached to her thigh.
“Just…” Minako paused, taking a deep breath. She reached into her shirt pocket, pulling out a tiny figure. The two leaned in as Minako gently placed him onto her palm. Their eyes went wide once they registered that the figure was in fact a living, breathing human. “See for yourself.”
“Oh my…” Mitsuru sighed.
The other girl gasped. “Wh-what happened to him?”
Minako shrugged. “He’s been like that ever since I could remember.” She gently nudged his shoulder with her index finger. “Come on, don’t be rude. Say hello.”
The tiny boy sighed. “Hello.”
“Sorry about him,” Minako apologized. “My twin brother's not exactly a ball of sunshine.”
“What’s his name?” the girl asked, catching herself stare at the shrunken boy.
“Minato,” he said.
The sister giggled. “And I’m Minako.”
“Our parents hated us,” he joked dryly.
“Don’t say that, little brother!” Minako chided, emphasizing the word ‘little.’
“And God hated me,” Minato finished, clearly annoyed with her sister’s comment.
The girl in pink wasn’t sure whether or not to laugh. It seemed like a routine, but she decided to play it safe and follow Mitsuru’s lead, which was to just smile politely.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you both,” the girl in pink said. “I’m Yukari Takeba.”
“Nice to meet you!” Minako chirped back with enough enthusiasm for the both of them.
“It’s getting late,” Mitsuru interrupted. “You’ll find your room on the third floor. You’re things should already be there. I suggest you tuck in to the night.”
“Oh… I’ll show you the way,” Yukari offered. “Follow me.”

Minako collapsed onto her bed, too exhausted from the train ride to change. She dropped her tiny brother onto the pillow next to her.
“Hey, sis,” Minato called, staring up at the ceiling.
“Yeah?”
Minato stretched, using his arms as a pillow. “Does something feel off to you?”
“Was it the creepy kid with the contract or the fact that Yukari-san and Mitsuru-san were both carrying guns?”
Shrugging, Minato closed his eyes. “Take your pick. I think something weird is going on here.”
“Me too.” Minako yawned. “I guess we’ll find out soon. We should sleep, though. We have a big day tomorrow.”
Minato didn’t like the way she emphasized ‘big.’ After being together their entire lives, it seemed that Minako still couldn’t resist size puns. He sighed, choosing to ignore it and focus on sleep. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
