Chapter #7

Futaba the Borrower

    by: Silverhammer Author IconMail Icon
The borrower Futaba lived by herself under the floorboards of LeBlanc. Her only real possessions were her thimble that she'd fill with coffee, her bed made of cloth napkins, and her coat made of buttons and scraps of green felt. Everything else she needed, she would borrow from the giants above.

Futaba was not allowed to directly interact with normal sized humans, as it was against the Borrower Code. However, she had grown to care deeply for the two men that ran LeBlanc. Sojiro, the cranky but kindhearted old owner, was what Futaba would have wanted her own father to be like, if she could remember him. Akira, Sojiro's part time help who lived in the attic, was very handsome, and Futaba was in love with him.

---

"This is beginning to feel like a huge mistake," Akira declared.

"I think it's cute," Ann said. "I wanna hear more."

---

In exchange for the food and shelter the two men unwittingly provided, Futaba would secretly do things to help them. If a customer was rude, his pockets would be picked and the money would end up in LeBlanc's register. If Akira missed a spot when he was cleaning the counters, Futaba would pick up the slack with her trusty toothpick-and-cotton mop. If Akira was struggling with his homework for school, he would look away from his paper for a split second only to turn back and find the correct answer mysteriously written in. Futaba loved nothing more than to help her two favorite giants.

In fact, on some nights, when Futaba was feeling especially adventurous, she would sneak into Akira's bed with him while he slept and...

"I AIN'T READIN' THIS!" Ryuji yelled, backing away from the laptop and averting his eyes as if it were the Ark of the Covenant. Or as if it described his best friend getting serviced sexually by a tiny girl in graphic detail.

"Feel free to skip ahead a bit, Ryuji," Akira said, his face a unique shade of scarlet none of the other Phantom Thieves had seen on a human being before.

"There's just... pages of it..." Morgana muttered, reading over Ryuji's shoulder.

"How would that even work from a physical standpoint?" Yusuke pondered, focusing on one of the final paragraphs. "Would she use both arms to..."

"Stop talking, Yusuke," Akira demanded.

---

It was a morning just like any other. Futaba emerged from the floorboards, her thimble full of coffee and her belly full of bits of leftover curry she had taken from Akira's plate after he left for school. She was about to hunt for pieces of scrap to build a table for her room when she heard Sojiro muttering to herself.

"Why would Haru Okumura open one of her Big Bang Coffee shops right across the street from me?" Sojiro asked as he glared out the window. "Does she think she can run me out of business? Well, we'll see what my top secret curry recipe has to say about that!"

Confident that his delicious curry would be enough to keep his store, Sojiro went about getting ready to open the cafe. Little did he realize that at that very moment, Haru Okumura was hatching a nasty scheme to steal his recipe...

---

"Wait, Haru-chan's the villain?" Makoto asked. "That's awful! What did she ever do to Futaba?"

"I'm sure she simply needed an antagonist and is writing who she knows, Mako-chan," Haru said, not seeming bothered at all by her villainous representation in Futaba's story.

"Yeah," Akira agreed. "Keep in mind, one of her other stories involves me, and I quote, 'just fucking eating her.' I'm sure Futaba doesn't mean anything by it."

"I want to see how evil I am!" Haru said excitedly as she scooted closer to the laptop. "Keep reading, Ryuji-kun!"

---

After a harrowing journey across the street, dodging many feet, bike wheels, and hungry stray cats, Futaba sneaked into Big Bang Coffee, which wasn't open for business yet. Haru paced around the room, cackling to herself and unaware of the tiny Futaba listening to her every word.

"Enjoy your precious shop while you can, Sojiro-san," said Haru. "Soon, your curry, your customers, and your delicious part time helper will be all mine!"

Futaba gasped. It would be up to her to save LeBlanc from this evil giantess. Even if she had to bend or even break the rules of the Borrower Code to do it.

Futaba listened carefully as Haru outlined her wicked plan...
