With a deluge of water pouring from the heavens the two friends scrambled to the maw of the cave. Looking it over it seemed quite safe, no obvious signs of monster infestation littered the entrance. There weren’t any tracks either, though the rains made looking for them a task in itself. As they pressed on the ground outside the cave was now nothing more than a thick gloopy soup of viscous mud. “Don’t worry we’ll get through this and be drying are gear in no time “Jet beamed, stretching out her limbs before blasting off in an explosive sprint.
Jet was sprinting full power with her usual vigour almost skipping effortlessly over the quagmire before her. That was until she came to the centre of the bog of course. Thanks to the heavy rain the centre of this patch had become like quicksand, Jets nimble feet effortlessly pulled into its sticky embrace. Jet began to panic as she sunk down to her waist and attempted to dig her legs free with her bare hands but no matter how much earth she shifted the rains just washed more mud to take its place.
Not wanting to let Holly realise her plan was unravelling almost as fast as she came up with it she yelled across. “Ummm Holly, I’m going to help you across ok? I know you’re not as adept at travelling rough terrain like me”
Holly simply stood there puzzled at how Jet standing in the centre of this bog was ever going to help her cross it. “How exactly?”
“It’s simple, you jump over to me and I’ll spring you with my arms over to the other side. Think of me as a bouncy stepping stone. Then once you’re across I’ll toss you my pack and then you use it to pull me to you.
Holly was truly sceptical now, sure Jet had done similar things in the past but with her current track record of bad luck things were bound to go wrong. “Are you sure about this?” Holly questioned.
“Don’t over think it just jump” Jet encouraged.
Holly paced a bit clearly worried about the best course of action before giving her cheeks a quick slap for focus and deciding to make the leap. With all her might she leapt across to where Jet was she felt as though she was flying briefly before her boots made contact with Jet. With even more force she then rocketed forward sailing past the muck and landing roughly on the cold hard rock of the cave floor. “Oh my God I did it! I did it!” she squealed hopping up and down in a cute display of accomplishment. “Jet did you see that!” her smug face dropping into one of confusion as she looked back towards Jet who was now flat on her back in the mud.
It turns out Holly did execute Jets plan to use her as a springboard but not in the way Jet was expecting. As soon as Holly had begun her sprint towards her, her boot had kicked a large wad of dirt straight into Jets face. Jet had then attempted to yell out for Holly to abort the plan but found she could only spit out mouthfuls of mud. Then as Jet had looked up to see if Holly had heard her she was met by the horrifying site of Holly’s filthy boots falling straight towards her face.
With a sickening squelch the two filthy soles squeezed a build-up of days of hiking as Holly’s full weight pressed into her. Jet’s neck bent backwards and her body sunk another foot into the goop as Jet felt Holly bend her knees and perch atop the poor woman’s face. Then with explosive force Holly kicked off to make her leap. The treads of her boots scraping painfully across Jets face, some of the mud on her soles was even scooped up into Jets nose and mouth as she bounded forward. When she was finally across Jet was left dazed and confused facing up into the rainy skies above, two perfect boot prints were left imprinted on the poor girls eyes and cheeks.
“Jet what the hell are you doing lazing about? You’ll catch your death in that rain. Throw me you pack and let’s get inside.
Jet’s world was still spinning as she tried to massage her divots out of her face and remove the last of the mud that she was forced to eat from Holly using her face as the caves welcome mat.
Once recovered however Jet threw her pack at Holly and the two began the arduous task of pulling Jet free from her sticky bind. After a good ten minutes of pulling Jet had only her ankles still trapped and she was now laying out on the surface. A few more tugs from Holly and she would be home and dry.
It was then a horrific noise filled the air, hearing this Holly dropped the pack and peered into the eerie dank cave. Deep within the sound of something truly huge began to stir from within the cave. The walls shook as its booming steps began to come closer. There was definitely something living in this cave and knowing the area it was unlikely to be friendly. “Holly quick pull me in! PULL ME IN!” Jet screamed. Holly however just stood in terror as the footsteps bounced her an inch in the air with each heavy footfall. “HOLLY FOR FUCK SAKE. PULL ME IN! “Jet pleaded.
This time Holly did snap out of it as she grabbed pack once more and began to pull. The booming steps were drawing nearer with each passing second and Holly couldn’t stand having the entrance and this creature behind her. Every few seconds she would glance over her shoulder to ensure they still had time. By now the footfalls were deafening Holly and Jet both terrified of what was going to happen.
Holly however couldn’t take the pressure anymore her flight instinct had kicked in. “I’m so sorry Jet, sorry, sorry, sorry” She sobbed as she dropped the pack and ran to a small crack in the cave wall to hide. “HOLLY COME BACK HERE! DON’T LEAVE ME!” Jet screamed.
Jet flailed desperately to get out of the sticky bog but without help she knew the odds were slim. It was then she saw a huge shadow form on the cave wall. What came into view scared her more than anything she had ever seen before. A gigantic Troll girl stumbled out from her lair brandishing a fallen tree as a makeshift torch. The creature’s size was truly colossal even by troll standards. Each of its feet could easily crush both Jet and Holly and with room to spare. It thick dumpy legs leading up to a loincloth that just covered its nethers before leading to a rotund belly that jutted out in front of it and supported its large breast covered by a similar cloth as it’s loins. Its arms were muscular and clearly strong with the ease it swung its torch. Its face was fairly plain looking the only noticeable features were two large bottom teeth that jutted up and rested either side of its large nose. The troll had even stuck its hair back into a greasy and debris ridden ponytail clearly taking some pride in its physical appearance.
Jet lay perfectly still trying desperately not to draw the creature’s attention. It lumbered about towards her, each hefty foot step closing the gap between them. Soon it was directly in front of her its gigantic knobbled toes jiggling in the mud in front of her face. The smell wafting from between its toes was enough to make Jet gag and she had to summon all of her strength not to retch and make a sound.
