As much as she knew she shouldn't, Reese couldn't exactly help herself.
It had been such a hard Summer, y'know? All the gossip and all the drama surrounding her and her drinking. The rumor that she'd totaled her dad's car. All the shit Heather was saying about her to justify her relationship with Josh. God, it was just... all so much. And she'd stayed strong throughout it all. She still did her exercises and she still did her best to stay in shape. She hadn't slipped up once, even when her Mom started making her all her favorite foods. She stayed strong and did her best not to cheat on the rigourous diet that she'd been placed on for Cheer practice.
But then yesterday had happened, and... and...
"Welcome to Big Burger, can I take your order?"
After yesterday, Reese could have really used a pick-me-up. It wasn't often that she splurged and got fast food, but when she did, she was usually not without good reason. After the accident she had stayed strong and had done her best to avoid it, but every other time in her life the negative could be punctuated with Big Burger. Failed a test? Big Burger. Her dog died? Double Big Burger. Her Nana died? Double Big Burger Deluxe. Reese was something of a comfort eater, through no fault of her own.
It had never really interfered with her life, and she had never been so unhappy so frequently that she had ever put on so much as a pound because of it. Even when Becca started working at this particular restaurant, offering her free food out the wazoo, she had stayed strong.
Today was just a special case.
"Yeah, can I get a Double Big Burger Deluxe meal?" Reese bit her bottom lip contemplatively, "Make it large, with a Coke?"
The chubby little redheaded girl behind the counter smiled and pressed some buttons on the register.
"That'll be $5.95." she said with an affirmative nod of her head.
Reese swiped her debit card and collected her empty cup.
God, her mom would kill her if she knew that she was here right now. She had skipped breakfast just to load up on junk food. That may as well have been a cardinal offense in her house—especially considering it was the Mom Chin-Up Special. God, even her Dad would have flipped his shit if he saw her here. Yadda yadda studying, yadda yadda cheer team, yadda yadda "just because you suck at life doesn't mean you can ruin it by skipping." blah blah blah. Whatever.
Reese didn't really care at this point.
Big Burger had always made her feel better in the past, and it was up to Big Burger to start making her feel better for the rest of the year. Seriously, her life was over. And she needed a goddamn Double Big Burger Deluxe, asap.
