CHAPTER II - Not-So-Great Expectations

Ms. Brooks starts her class with a quick quiz before the final test on the book that Dylan had read. She's wearing her fall clothes: a t-shirt, jeans, and cowgirl boots. Dylan doesn't want to let her down; he's one of her favorites. The quiz was very brief, but his eyelids were getting extremely heavy.
"Alright guys, good luck," she says as she passes out the final sheet of paper.

Dylan looks at the first question, places his pencil upon the test paper, and scribbles down a few words. He gets that eerie feeling inside and outside of his body again. He can't take all of this pressure and tiredness and stress all at once. He practically passes out.

The bell has rung, everyone is out of the classroom, and Dylan is still asleep with the pencil grasped in his hand. Ms. Brooks approaches his desk, and brushes her fingers through his hair. Immediately, he shoots up from his nap, and looks up to see his teacher. A chill runs down from his head to his feet. Luckily for him, Ms. Brooks is more understanding than most other teachers in the school.

"This isn't like you," she says in a concerned tone, "Why don't you come back after school and finish this up for me, or you could come during your lunch hour, alright bud?"

Dylan nods his head, and apologizes a dozen times. She giggles.

"It's alright, I'm just glad to see that my boots put a little extra height on me".

Dylan levels up with her. She's right, those boots have put at least 3 more inches on her.
