Chapter #3

Maniacal Manor of Misery

    by: Unknown
An old victorian mansion, it seemed, converted into a cheap little haunted house by its owners. Apparently, this event was running for all of October, but people who arrive on the night of halloween get in free. Your friends were nervous, but you didn’t want to miss this potentially once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so you eagerly rush up to the front door and ring the bell.

Almost immediately, a woman who looked to be around 20 opened the door… but just like her neighbor, her costume made her look just some kind of anthropomorphic animal! She was also similar in height, at seven feet, and her ‘outfit’ was even equally skimpy, wearing only a black bra, panties and top hat to contrast her white fur. Unlike her neighbor, she seemed to be a canine of some sort. You wonder if this neighborhood was having a ‘themed’ halloween this year, for some reason. “Ooo! Welcome travellers, to the Maniacal Manor of Misery!” She announced, in a cheesy, ‘spooky’ voice as she stepped out to greet you. “Can you survive the twiiisted halls, and the spoooky horrors hiding within?”

“Why does everyone around here wear animal costumes?” You ask, staring at her thick fur. She looked so realistic!

“... I do not know what you are referring to, travelleeer!” She said, trying to stay in character. “I am simply here to guide you into the Maniacal Manor of Misery!”

“Is there candy?” Maria asked, desperate to fill her bag with more sweets.

“Brooownies are provided for freee at the end of the atraaaction!” The half-naked canine explained, in the same ghostly voice. “If you can make it that far, that is… ahahaha!” She lets out a corny attempt at an evil laugh as she sets aside, gesturing for you to enter the darkened halls of the mansion. There seemed to be a fog machine hidden somewhere, as you could see the ground through the darkened fog as you stepped eagerly inside.

“I-I’m not sure about this,” Kevin whispered nervously as the three of you walked inside. “I don’t really like haunted houses…”

“What? This one is super cheesy. Are you seeing her acting?” You whisper with a chuckle. This wasn’t a real haunted house, obviously; it was probably just something a bunch of bored college students set up. “Besides, I haven’t had any brownies for as long as I can remember.”

“I think it looks fun!” Maria says, lightly punching his shoulder with a laugh. “Don’t be a scaredy-cat.”

“Okay, okay… I guess…” He said, agreeing to accompany you if only just to avoid looking cowardly in front of his friends.

Foools! You know not what great risks you are taking here!” She says, in the same melodramatic voice, before she leans over and whispers for a moment, breaking character. “Right this way. Watch your step. It’s sort of dark in there.”

“Thanks,” you say, walking through a curtain into the haunted house proper. “Wish us luck!”

“I am already writing your obituuuaaaries!” She said with a smile as you walked away, getting a laugh out of the three of you. The inside of the house seemed like a regular old victorian mansion, that has had the lights turned off and been redecorated. The only decorations were ‘creepy’ pumpkins, dancing skeletons, fake bats, and the like. “Prepare to meet your dooooom!” One of the fake skeletons ‘shouted’, startling Kevin slightly, while only eliciting a laugh from you and Maria. As you wandered through the various ‘spooky’ rooms of the manor, you start to feel at ease. This wasn’t really scary; it was just sort of fun!

As you travel deeper and deeper into the manor, though, things started to get scarier and scarier. The darkness only seemed to grow thicker, and hallways more confused. The jumpscares grew louder and more intense; the visuals became more disturbing, and soon, the three of your were covered in traces of fake blood, which smelled quite like ketchup. Kevin was freaking out at this point, and you and Maria were growing scared as well… but you definitely wouldn’t be able to navigate your way out of here. Most of the jumpscares involved anthropomorphic animals, though you were always too shocked to tell if they were real or animatronic.

Eventually, while wandering through the darkened halls, you realized you no longer could hear your friend’s footsteps following behind you. You whimpered audibly when you realized they were suddenly gone! The three of you must have gotten separated somehow in the darkness. You take a moment to try and calm yourself down. It seems like you’ve been stuck in this mansion forever; you were bound to find the way out, sooner or later…

┄┄┄

Meanwhile, Kevin was absolutely panicking at this point, having realized quickly that he was alone in the manor. He sprinted through the darkness, calling your names, but his voice just echoed through the halls, unheard. The hallways branched out in all sorts of confusing ways, and just when he thought he was making progress, he ended up right back where he started. He was quickly losing all hope for escape. To him, it seemed like the house simply didn’t have an exit; he would be trapped here, forever and ever…

Just when he thought he was alone, he ran into one last jumpscare. This time, though, it definitely wasn’t an animatronic -- it was one of the employees! To him, she appeared to be a college-age woman dressed as a creepy...
