The possibility of collecting enough candy to last until Christmas was tempting… but really, you wanted to be able to relax and enjoy your Halloween every once in awhile. Besides, something about the park just put you in a good mood; even the normally-disconcerting animal people put you at ease, with their warm smiles and delicious, free sweets. There was just such a well-made, fun ‘spooky’ atmosphere in the park that you just wanted to soak in it for a while… and it seemed your friends agreed.
You tried to converse with some of the other trick-or-treats wandering around the park, but most of them spoke other languages completely. Strange -- you had never really met anyone in the area who couldn’t speak English, but this one little park alone had dozens of them. Besides that, all of the trick-or-treaters looked and dressed like they were from all over the globe, rather than just this general area. It was just another aspect of Vampyre Lane you were confused by… but the language barrier didn’t stop you from hanging out with the other guests. After tossing around a football with some for a while, you deduced that the stage was the aspect of the park that the visitors were most excited about. “Hey, we should check out what’s going on over there,” you point towards the stage, hearing a beautiful song being sung there, even from all the way on the other side of the park.
“Alright, coming,” Maria said, finishing the last of her cupcake as she stepped forward. Kevin joined you two silently as you walked towards the stage. He didn’t seem to like it here very much; then again, he didn’t seem to like this whole neighborhood. He was always pretty neurotic, but you hoped he didn’t end up ruining Halloween for himself.
You rushed as fast as you could, but to your disappointment, by the time you reached the stage, the performance was already over. A beautiful blue-furred feline was walking proudly offstage, the audience clearly lovestruck by her singing. You, on the other hand, had missed the whole thing. You snort in frustration, planting yourself in one of the empty seats, in the hopes that you could at least catch the next performer. Your friends sat on either side of you, and the three of you munched on sweets and discussed your plans while you waited for something interesting to happen.
Eventually, just as you were about to give up, the lights shining down on the stage dimmed and/or changed colors, signifying another of the ‘anthros’ was about to debut onstage. You perk up in anticipation, waiting to see one of the locals walk up the stage’s stairs… instead, though, to your surprise, a dazzling cloud of light and fog burst onstage, slowly clearing to reveal the next performer standing before the crowd. She seemed to be dressed as a bat of some sort, with silk like purple fur complementing her long, orange robe. Though it took the liberty of showing off as much of her cleavage as possible, the robe still lent the voluptuous bat the most modesty of any of the anthros you’d seen so far, so that was a plus. Completing her witch outfit was a big orange hat and a mystical-looking wooden staff, which she waved around whenever she wanted to perform feats of ‘magic’. “Welcome, visitors, to Serafine’s Study of the Uncanny!” She greeted the audience in a loud, booming voice, as she took a bow. “I don’t get to perform for humans very often, so this is quite exciting!”
Humans? You raised a brow, confused. Wasn’t she a human? Maybe this was part of the show. “Yes, I am the sorceress Serafine. Some of you may have heard of me. For those that haven’t, I am simply a humble teacher, here to open your minds to the wonderful and the uncanny,” She stood, walking around the stage, as purple and orange fog collected around her feet. She paused suddenly, pointing her long staff at the crowd. “But first, I will require a volunteer. A little assistant, if I may.” Immediately, about a dozen hands shot up; and seeing the excitement on the volunteer’s faces, you reluctantly raised your hand as well, curious to see what all the hubbub was about. She smirked as she looked over the crowd, sizing up the possible volunteers according to some unknown criteria. Eventually, she picks...
